We used a lot of Sonlight read-aloud recommendations along with some others.

Here were our most successful ones:

Tale of Despereaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo

The Borrowers

Charlotte's Web

The Little House series

I would also reccommend looking at Sonlight's list. Also, how about...

The Trumpet of the Swan

James and the Giant Peach

Paddington Series

Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Just a few off the top of my head, hope it helps!

I am trying to put together our read aloud list for 1st grade but there are just so many good books I can narrow it down. Does anyone have a list handy that they used/use?

There is also Amblesidehttp://www.amblesideonline.org/index2.shtml

Veritas Presshttp://www.veritaspress.com/

and Tanglewood http://www.tanglewoodeducation.com/grade1.htm

We also enjoyed the Box Car Series
