Mom-ninja.
Dh's hair is thinning and he wants to know what he can do. I think the only thing that really works is prescription Rogaine, correct?
jplain
He might be happy to know it can be obtained over the counter now, no prescription needed. :) (If he's like my DH, who avoids doctors at all costs, going to the doctor to ask for a prescription might be more traumatic than the hair loss itself.) Catwoman
There is also a pill he can take. It's called Finasteride and he would need a prescription for it.
TracyR
I think Rogaine is over the counter now. You can buy it in a store. Just make sure that the hair loss isn't thyroid related first.
Negin
I would use Rogaine as a last resort, if at all. I don't like the possible side effects. If you or anyone here is interested, I can post more natural/nutritional remedies and tips. I have posted them before. You could do a search. Tammyla
He might try Nioxin shampoo & conditioner. Sally's beauty supply sells it in stores and on-line, as do most hair salons. Sally's is so much cheaper though.
desertmum
First thing your dh should do is go see a doctor and have some blood tests done to check thyroid and red blood cell count, etc. Then he might want to see a dermatologist to check the scalp for other causes which may be causing hair loss. My dh was loosing some hair and after 2 months on Rogaine the hair loss stopped. He then weaned himself off the Rogaine and has been fine -hair wise- ever since.
