Wendi
Seriously. I have been reading them as fast as I can get them from the library. I cannot put them down. They just get better as the series goes on. Such fun! I have even been inspired to check out some books and DVDs on Egypt, including a book by a reall female Egyptologist who discovered the mummy of Queen Nefertiti! These books are just so much fun! Wendi

chiguirre
Well, you can always read Barbara Mertz's history of Egypt: http://www.amazon.com/Temples-Tombs-Hieroglyphs-Popular-History/dp/006125276X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1212667681&sr=8-
chai
They are good, aren't they. You just need to read through them all and then go through withdrawal at the end of them. Yes, you should read them in order if you can. The people and relationships grow and change. Hmmm.... maybe it's time for me to start them all over again.... OnTheBrink
Is Amelia Peabody the author, or a character in the books?
Pink Fairy
HUGE fan here, too. May I put in a plug for listening to these on tape or cd? The narrator is Barbara Rosenblatt, and she does a tremendous job bringing the characters to life--especially Emerson. Delightful!!! And after listening to the first one, I found out Barbara is an American--you'd never guess in a million years because she reads with such a posh British accent. Wendi
If I am going to read them, should I read them in a certain order? The first book is The Crocodile on the Sandbank. You can find a list of the books, in reverse order, at http://www.ameliapeabody.com. Amelia Peabody's Egypt is a reference guide that's fun and helpful. OnTheBrink
The books are by Elizabeth Peters. Wendi OH! I know her. She used to write under the name Barbara Michaels. I read all her supernatural/spooky books. I've not read any of these other books. Guess I better pay my overdue fees and check some out! Harriet Vane
Amelia Peabody is one of my favorite fiction characters, ever. And I am half in love with both Emerson and Ramses. I have a lot of respect for the way Elizabeth Peters has held it together and managed to keep delivering. So many authors peter out before the end of the series, KWIM? My dh says I should change my name from strider to peabody--he says it fits me better. I'm not sure whether to be flattered or not--I think he likes picturing me rushing around with a sword parasol. I'm glad you are enjoying them.
