Night Elf
Does anyone know if an Apple store will repair a shattered iTouch screen? The information I'm finding online is confusing. I'm inclined to buy a new one because this one is old, but I don't know if the apps can be transferred.
Surfside Academy
I believe they will. I shattered the glass on my Iphone and they could replace it but it was a $100 fix. Amazon should have do-it-yourself screen replacement kits for about $10. Be warned though-my husband tried to replace my screen and my phone was left in dozens of pieces! The upside was that I got new Iphone 4 out of the deal! :D If you do get a new one, just make sure to back everything up on your ITunes account and you should be fine. Fortunately, I just had done that a few days prior with my old phone. The ITouch should work exactly the same. Mrs Mungo
My iphone screen was damaged (out of the box) and they fixed it at the Apple Store, it took them about 5 minutes to replace it. You might call and ask how much they would charge. If it is out of warranty, then a local computer shop might be able to fix it more cheaply. It's worth a call to the apple store and then the local shop. If you back it up with itunes, I *think* you should be able to restore the apps. They lost me at the instruction that at some point you have to use a hair dryer and oven mitt and manage lots of little tiny parts.
Perry
My husband repaired ours, following instructions on a youtube video. He didn't have a problem with it, but he's very mechanical. I can ask him for details when he gets home this evening.
KungFuPanda
Does anyone know if an Apple store will repair a shattered iTouch screen? The information I'm finding online is confusing. I'm inclined to buy a new one because this one is old, but I don't know if the apps can be transferred. My daughter's iPhone screen shattered when it made a one-foot drop and landed face-up on vinyl tile. We purchased it at an Apple store and they replaced it for free, but warned that a second offense would cost us. My iPhone is an antique now, but it is made of metal and I routinely drop it face-down on concrete. I cannot upgrade until they make them tough again! Night Elf
The Apple store told me that they cannot repair an itouch screen. If it was under warranty, they would replace the itouch. If it isn't under warranty, I have to buy a new one. I guess they don't consider an itouch to be as important as an iphone. I'm not willing to try this on my own. We'll just buy a new one. :)
Night Elf
If you do it right, it isn't that hard. Just takes patience. :) Dh and a coworker were goofing off one day and dh accidentally knocked his friend's iPhone out of his hand. Dh ended up having to replace it, so I ordered a repair kit and fixed it myself. Ended up getting $175.00 out of it on Ebay. :) Nah, neither DH nor I have that kind of ability. DH is a software specialist, not hardware in any way, shape or fashion. We bought a new itouch at Walmart just a while ago. It is so much better than the one we had anyway. Our itouch lasted 4 years. I consider that great success and it's time for a new one anyway.
