BamaTanya
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sleep-Revolution-Better-Than-a-Box-Spring/10881293 It seems insubstantial when you look at it, but it is very sturdy. We traded off our old tall iron bed and were happy to get a shorter bed we can sit on while we put on our shoes. :001_smile: I don't know if it is a characteristic of our frame or our mattress, but we sometimes have to push the mattress back toward the head as it slides footward -- just like our sofa cushions do. Maybe our mattress isn't heavy enough. I don't know. We're planning to purchase more for our dc over the next year. 2 of them have daybeds with metal springy frames that tear at the mattress and sheets. hth
KrissiK
We just put it on top of our mattress. It's a little hard to make the bed because the fitted sheet isn't quite deep enough. But, that's ok.
lea1
Both. Our mattress would have been too low if we had only used plywood. We put the plywood on top of our boxsprings so the height of our mattress is about what it was before we got this one.
kathkath
DH built a platform box out of plywood and boards the size of a box spring. He actually did that for our previous spring mattress bc it was too bouncy.

Samiam
We all have foam mattresses here. DS5 and DS8 have twin beds, that could be bunk beds, so they have those "bunkies" for their beds, which are essentially plywood. DS13 has a platform bed from Ikea, and uses slats (basically wood pieces, the length of the bed from side to side) and that is what his mattress sits on. Ikea has several to choose from, varying in price, the slats that is. We also have an Ikea platform bed, with slats.
