lamarley
A female character in a book I recently read was named Colquitt. My mind wants to say it like "Coal'quit", yet I'm wondering if there is a different regional pronunciation for it, as I've never heard it before. Thanks! OrganicAnn
That is about how I would pronounce it. If it is a french name I would do a col kwi t similar to how the french pronounce qui and at a t (since there are 2 ts).
Chris in VA
Cole keet.
Matryoshka
Coal KEET (because of the two t's - but if there were only one t, I'd say Coal KEE because it would look even more French. If it's French-derived it should be Colquitte - but maybe the author just made it up and all my instinctive attempts to pronounce it based on analogy are way off :tongue_smilie:)
Parrothead
Dh is from a town called Colquitt. It is pronounced Caul-quit - just about the same as caul in cauliflower.
Pamela H in Texas
We have a street by that name. The first syllable is said as a cross between Caul (cauliflower) and Coal. Then add Quit.
