Holly IN
Hello, My sophmore boy loves to write. However two of his teachers tell me that he has trouble structuring his paper in order. The other two teachers love the way he writes. So not sure what is going on. LOL!! I thought we would work on this issue this summer. So would love input on resources for structuring essay paper. Right now I have TOG writing aid book but the information is a bit lacking on this. We do have the Elegant Essay from IEW due to his college prep class. Thanks!! schoolinmom
the institute for excellence in writing has a very simple structure for you to use. it gives a good format to follow to structure well written 5 or more paragraph essays. in addition, it give suggestions on how to vary the sentences and sentence openers. when you fist look at it, it may seem confusing, but a quick read through and you will see it is not hard. I have used it for 3 kids and they are all excellent writers.
Brigid in NC
I recommend The Lively Art of Writing. It is a small book that is an excellent resource for learning how to structure essays. :)
rwjx2khsmj
We've enjoyed Analytical Grammar. They have a program that teaches the essay and research paper. It looks very easy and complete.
BrendaC
We plan to use Lively Art of Writing next year followed by Windows to the World. I'm looking forward to using both of these. I have heard great reviews of both of them.
plansrme
Yes, yes, yes on Lively Art of Writing. It does an excellent job of teaching structure without dictating content the way many programs do. It is such a tiny little book, an easy read, and will set you back a whopping $6. Terri

Sumiller
I have just started reading this and have no idea how helpful it is, but just to put it out there: Dr Ed Vavra's Writing Papers for College (.doc file), available as part of his English Composition I course. Thank you for linking this doc.!!! I am using his KISS grammar with my youngest and loving the way he teaches. I'm hoping his Writing Papers for College will help my older son to polish his skills. :001_smile: Also, to OP, I *4th* the suggestion for Lively Art of Writing.
