gingersmom
My brother and sister in law are expecting their first child. :001_smile: Any recommendations of good parenting/baby books (secular)? What's a good present for a soon to be new mom?

Impish
"David, We're Pregnant!" or any of the other Lynn Johnson comic books. :D
LidiyaDawn
What to Expect when you're Expecting - this is a fantastic, informative book..and it's funny too. :D WTEWYE - The First Year - I haven't read the first year one, but if it's anything like the above, it should be pretty good. ktgrok
I ALWAYS give the Dr. Sears baby book. It has EVERY thing, from how to breastfeed to how to choose a formula to how to pick a daycare, how to use a sling, parenting a fussy baby, etc. . The other choice would be the baby whisperer dvd. I dislike Babywise and What to Expect the First Year, too harsh and too much controversy. Another great idea is to make up a list of local resources. I printed up on cute baby themed cardstock the name and number of their chosesn pediatrician, a local lactation consultant, the directions to the closest pediatric emergency room, the number for poison control, the dosage chart for tylenol and ibuprofen, etc. I had it laminated and punched a hole in the corner, and put a cute keyring type ring through it so it could hang. nikkistone
we LOVED Babywise. Having a flexible (emphasis on the flexible) schedule was just what we needed.
UnsinkableKristen
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding - Le Leche League I know it's a breastfeeding book, but there are so many wonderful parenting gems in there. I've given that book to all of my good friends for their first baby, and have given my copies to so many people that I'm on my 7th one :D
