nono
It runs in my family. My mother has it and is in a nursing home. :grouphug:
Mejane
Lots, as I used to be a geriatric social worker for Alzheimer's patients. Read the book The 36-hour Day, and get in touch with your local Alzheimer's Association or elderly services agency. They have lots of resources for families dealing with dementia. It's a tough road. :grouphug:
radiobrain
What do you need to know? It is really hard to deal with, for everybody. Especially the person who has it.
MindyD
My grandfather has it, all of his brothers have or had it, and his 4 sons (my dad and uncles) are waiting for it happen. It's a terrible disease. I don't have any help or advice, and just wanted to say that I'm sorry and to try to remember her the way she was.
G5052
There are many kinds of dementia, some of which can be treated but some cannot be treated. Sometimes medication will help for awhile. If at all possible, you need the advice of a specialist who deals with the different aspects of dementia. The diagnosis really should come from a neurologist although family doctors can do basic tests. You probably will also need an attorney who is familiar with eldercare law at some point. There are many, many resources online and local Ahlzeimer's Associations can provide information even if the dementia is not Ahlzeimer's. I've dealt with this long distance for a long time now, and it is a hard, hard road. :grouphug:

We just had a conversation with two crisis care workers and my mom is now going with them to file a something-or-another to get her committed against her will. This is exhausting. Kris P.S. This may not sound all coherent, but I'm tired and stressed and she threatened to kill me.

It sounds as though you are doing the right thing for all concerned.
