WIS0320
Are there any other versions available other than the ones on the PHP site with the male reader? There is something about his voice... that grates a bit? I've not bought them b/c I am not sure I can deal with listening to them. SOTW isn't on board for next year as our history curriculum but we do have a 12 hour drive to Disney in the fall and I thought that would fill in some of the time. :tongue_smilie: Anyone know of any other reader for this series on audio? OK Family
I believe there was a female that recorded at least one volume. Try and find the clearance section at peacehill press, last time I looked they had some for sale.
Amy in KS
Barbara Johnson was the original narrator. I prefer her audios. However, I believe she only recorded the first two.
lakotajm
Yeah, we were disappointed that Barbara did not record more. I think she only did SOTW Vol. 1. We do not like Jim Weiss! But we went ahead and bought it. My oldest, especially, complains when I put him on. ("Not that old guy with the weird voice again!");) Sigh...we want Barbara! Can't SWB pay her large sums of money to do Vol. 2-4? (Or is she deceased?) My only complaint with Barbara's recording was that it sometimes put dd7 to sleep and then the chapters would be separated with that jarring/loud music! EEK! miracleone
We also prefer Barbara Johnson's reading.
Amy in KS
She did do volume 2 (we have it). At least you can look for that...
violinmom
Oh, we LOVE the Jim Weiss recordings!
SonshineLearner
I love both readers of the SOTW books :) But, just as a thought... Jim Weiss has other stories he reads, some you can find at the library... and even those who don't like his SOTW readings... sometimes like his other stories.. We love them! :)
Mallory
There are NEW original copies of SOTW 2 audio available from Peace Hill Press for $19.95! The link is at the bottom under Original Editions (or something like that).
oleladyintheshoe
Ah ha ha!! I thought it would be blasphemy to say I cannot stand "The Voice." UGH Apparently he has a following but I just purchased the audio in March and wish it was returnable b/c I amlost can't bear to listen. 3lilreds in NC
How different is the original Vol. 2 from the new one?
Mallory
They didn't chage the text at all in the revisions. So the audio works just fine, just a different voice. There were some changes to font, maps were updated, and something about the timeline at the end of the book.
mamachanse
 We love "the voice" and dh does a perfect imitation.
violinmom
My kids like the Jim Weiss recordings. They complain that the other ones were too fast.
