Update - Pediatrician and Growth Issue Scare

Recommended Posts

I posted a few weeks ago about my son's pediatrician telling me that he was very advanced in puberty and was only likely to grow 2 - 3 more inches even though that would drop him from the 75th percentile on his growth chart down to the 3rd percentile. http://welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259496

We had our appointment with the pediatric endocrinologist today and I'm so glad we went. She does not believe he is as far along in puberty as the pediatrician had indicated. (She says Tanner 3, while the ped was saying Tanner 4.) She also looked at his bone age x-ray and says he has plenty of room and time to grow and that her estimate is that he will wind up being 5'10" or 5'11", which would follow the curve on his growth chart that he's been on since he was a baby.

I am so relieved for him!

for some mild scoliosis. He looked at her xrays and said that her hip bones showed that she would stop growing within the next 6 mo - which would have put her at about 5ft. Well, 2.5 years later she is almost 5ft3in, and who knows if she's stopped-she's grown at least an inch since Thanksgiving. So even the experts can be wrong. Glad to hear your son isn't done yet - it's hard on boys to be short.
