NorCalMom
I would like to know what books for LG & (especially) Dialectic stages that you consider to be "must have" for Year 1. This would be in addition to the books that cover multiple units advised by TOG to purchase. I'm wondering about the rest of the big list. I can't afford to buy them all - just trying to pick the best ones. :) Thanks! Edited April 5, 2011 by cowgirl

NorCalMom
Any TOG users on the board today?? :bigear:
~Tara~
Usborne Encyclopedia of the Ancient World. It is used a lot as a core resource in UG. Maybe the Children's Illustrated Bible for the younger crowd. Various craft books are used a lot. I couldn't always get the ones I needed/wanted from the library. I've never seen the inside of Classical Kids, but from what I gathered in the assignments, they had neat stuff in that. You might want to go through the list at Bookshelf Central then browse the craft book titles and pick one of those to buy that will work for your levels. Everything else I have been able to get from the library, or at least, given TOG's myriad of options, can make do just fine. I would have liked to have my own copy of the Usborne book though and was able to borrow a copy of the Children's Bible. Both have gotten MUCH use. HTH a bit. NorCalMom
Thank you, Tara & Tracy. I have a couple of the books you mentioned & I'll look into the others. Anyone have thoughts on the Dialectic books?
Karenciavo
Although they are officially rhetoric, two of my favorite books for all levels are Warfare in the Classical World and Holman Bible Atlas.
taffnus
I'll second the Holman Bible Atlas. I finally broke down and bought it for myself (my dd is LG). I wish I'd had it from the beginning for a better picture of the geography and history. Also, the activity books would be good to have. I've gotten mine from the library but it's a constant struggle to remember to renew because they're used for such long stretches. I also used the LG Bible from the library but, looking back, would have bought a used copy (easily found). :-) Oh...I LOVED God King. I found it too old for my LG and PKer so didn't read it to them. Could be great for UG and D.
lexi
:bigear: I'm getting ready to make my LG booklist and was wondering the same thing. I don't have the greatest library system so I can only find a few of the resources. I was thinking I might have to order most of the books. NorCalMom
For anyone looking....I just found the Holman Bible Atlas BRAND NEW on ebay for $14.98 w/ free shipping. The seller is treasureschristianbooks, and was listing 7 copies available at that price. (Well, now there's 6 'cause I bought one!) :)
