Embassy
I'm searching for botany related living books around 3rd-8th grade level. I haven't been having much success. Any recommendations? Thanks!
helena
We're doing the microscope study first (http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1300391497-1348124&subject=11&category=3308), then moving on to this: http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Botany+Adventure%21+Unit+Study/001506/1300391497-1348124 http://www.rainbowresource.com/pictures/004750/i/1/1300391497-1348124 http://www.rainbowresource.com/pictures/004751/1300391497-1348124

Kalmia
Plants and Their Children is the most fantastic botany book for children to read-to-self or as a family read aloud. It is 100 years old and written directly to the child. It is available in its entirety on Google books (where the author's maiden name Frances Theodora Parsons is used) and is available as a used book from Amazon (where the author's married name Mrs. William Starr Dana is listed). The used books are very delicate (as they are 100 years old). It is also available as a reprint (use Plants and their Children and Frances Theodora Parsons on Amazon) for around $19. mcconnellboys
I've used Kym Wright's botany study, but it would be a lot for elementary age unless you're modifying it. I like the other two books mentioned, too! Some books we've used and liked: Incredible Plants (DK) The Tree: A First Discovery Book (Scholastic) Usborne First Book of Nature - section on trees and flowers Fruit: A First Discovery Book (Scholastic) Vegetables in the Garden: A First Discovery Book (Scholastic) Flower: A First Discovery Book (Scholastic) Desert Giant (re: Saguaro) Mushrooms and Molds, Robert Froman DK Picturepedia: Food and Farming - sections on plants grown agriculturally Inside Guides: Incredible Plants, Barbara Taylor (DK) Eyewitness Visual Dictionary of Plants Usborne Mysteries and Marvels of Plant Life How Does it Grow? From Seed to Sunflower, Ian Smith Trees, Sarah Woolard Discovering Trees, Keith Brandt The Oak, Andrienne Soutter-Perrot Why do Leaves Change? Betsy Maestro A Tree for All Seasons, National Geo, Robin Bernard
woolybear
Shanleya's Quest: A Botany Adventure for Kids Ages 9-99 That's the one I was going to recommend. My kids love that book.
EppieJ
Have you checked into Apologia? I think the study could be adapted for each of your grades so that they could study the same things together.
