missesd
Which one should I start with?? There seem to be so many, and you can't seem to get a look inside of them online. So for a young 5 yr old, starting Kindy... where would you start and why? Thanks :)
tuckabella
If the child already knows the letter sounds, skip the A, B and C books (these are set-up in landscape format). Start with ETC Book 1 (portrait format, like a regular book, longer up and down than across). Things build on each other. We didn't use the half books, they are for more practice, if needed. We usually started with ETC 1 in kindegarten; they are the perfect level for that.

I have all those pages up, as I am trying to plan curriculum for next year. I've been up all night, so I am just searching the name, and writing down prices. I haven't even opened up their individual pages... guess that would help, huh? LOL
bamagirl
Not much to add other than we also started at ETC 1 for K....the great thing about ETC is the 1/2 books if they need more practice. We went straight to 2 from 1 though and it was a seamless step! Good luck :)
kim.4dogs
I've never used the half books (yet), but I started all of mine in kindergarten with the A, B, and C books. They all worked through them pretty quickly and went on to book 1 (and probably 2, also) in kindergarten. I thought my ds knew all of his letters and sounds, but he didn't have them down well enough to start sounding out words. We worked through ETC A, B, and C and he was ready to go! Hwin
We started with Book 1. He knew how to write letters (for the most part) and definitely knew what sound each letter makes. I still haven't made up my mind about the half books, but we went through the first book in 10 weeks, so I'm inclined to include them.
