Thanks to my praying friends! Back from doctor's office...

Recommended Posts

We are back from the neurologist's office. Dr. Bob (last name is hard to pronounce, so he OK'd this) gave us the results.

First off, THANKS to my praying friends. How very kind of you and a blessing to know that there is a spiritual family here. I'm grateful for your prayer support and replies via the threads and pm!! :grouphug:

It was a good visit. No one was rushed. We asked our questions and rec'd answers. DD was social which is good.

~ DD is NOT having night time seizures in any format!! :hurray:

~ She IS experiencing "aroused wakefulness" 15 times every hour

~ She is getting into REM, BUT... normal rem is steady and smooth. DD's rem is up/down like a roller coaster.

~ He looked at her tonsils and they are slightly enlarged

So, what's causing the above? At his recommendation, we have scheduled dd with eent dr. for Tu Dec 14 at 10:30. The thinking here is that IF the eent dr diagnoses that tonsils are enlarged enough that they would be restricting her air flow when she sleeps. Sleep deprivation can cause a host of problems, one of which is moodiness. Next Tuesday we'll know if there will be a procedure and what that will be. Tonsils are one and he may do the "scope" to check for acid.

However, if the eent dr does not think tonsils are the culprit, then we're back with anxiety issues which is a companion issue to epilepsy.

Dr. Bob referred to us as "closet neurologists" b/c our dd has been patient there for 3 + years now. To this statement, I chuckled nervously outloud.

Epilepsy Info....new study that came out this past summer is suggesting that eeg's will give the needed info of brain waves within a 10-20 time segment. HTH for those of you who need it.

:grouphug: Sheryl

THANKS again to everyone who prayed!

Thanks for the update. From a selfish perspective, it's useful to me as I continually try to figure out my non-verbal dd with intractable seizures. I know that she has sleep issues and your posts are encouraging me to get her to a sleep specialist (after the holidays!). As you said, sleep affects so many other things. Hope you find a treatment or path that helps your dd.

Ali, Oh....I don't think you're being selfish at all. We're here to back one another through info, questions/answers, advice, suggestions, prayer, recommendations, etc, etc. So, please don't think you're being selfish. You are being a discerning mother to keep your eyes and ears open. That's exactly what I do.

I gleaned from others myself. I pray with others. Many kind folks here have prayed for my dd.

If you need/want to pm me, please feel free to do so. We can chat.

FYI...there are different types of sleep studies....I mention this so that your dd gets the right sleep study.
