lisabees
DD is 7 - she reads on a 2nd-3rd grade level. I'd like to get her a few Dick King-Smith books for Christmas. She is all about animals!! :001_smile:
Laura Corin
We liked Martin's Mice, Happy Mouseday, The Terrible Trins, Babe the Sheep-Pig and A Mouse Called Wolf. We also liked the Sophie books, about a girl who wants to be a 'lady farmer'; the first is Sophie's Snail. Of this list, I think Babe is the hardest read. Hedgehog
The Swoose. My sister bought this for DD11 a couple years ago and I thought it was a real nice story.
Dmmetler
My daughter loved "The School Mouse", except that it was sad when most of the mice were poisoned and died.
nmoira
The Sophie books. Do get the UK versions though, as the American versions were clumsily americanized (e.g. Sophie goes to "kindergarten" *shudder* and it gets worse). All six books of the original books are available in two volumes: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1844289915/ http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1844289923/ You can get these from Book Depository as well (free shipping). The Nine Lives of Aristotle was a big hit here, as was The Sheep Pig (aka Babe). I've linked to the UK edition of The Sheep Pig, but I have no idea whether the US edition was butchered in the manner of the Sophie books. lisabees
My daughter loved "The School Mouse", except that it was sad when most of the mice were poisoned and died. Oh that's not good. DD is extremely sensitive to dying animals. :001_huh: The Sophie books. Do get the UK versions though, as the American versions were clumsily americanized I actually think I took this advice from you already! I should have mentioned that we have and love the Sophie books. :) Thanks all for your suggestions!
