Another Lego ?

Do you think Lego base plates to build on are fantastic, somewhat useful, or a waste? DSalmost4 likes to play Legos at his table, the dinner table, or the kitchen island. I'm wondering if he'd like the base plates or not. Thanks!

I think my kids would all say "somewhat useful". The plates are good for building flat "rooms" and such and acting out scenes on them. They build beds, tvs, fireplaces, etc. for their figures.

My son used them when he was younger because he would make creations that needed the stability of a plate. He would also move them around and it was easier to move something stuck to a plate. But my son has always preferred keeping his creations on display for weeks at a time. He still has 2 creations he made when he was about 6 years old, and he's now 14.

They are indispensable to my son. He uses them when making Star Wars stop motion Lego movies.

Both my sons use theirs a lot. They have several different ones and love to build different "scenes" on several at a time.

I'd say VERY useful. My son uses his base plates all the time to build anything from houses to battle scenes. He actually spent $15 of his own money to buy that instead of a small Lego set.

My kids love the baseplates. They each have their own, and I think we have a couple extra for those times they're needed (as in, when Dad's playing Legos too, lol!)

Indispensable here. DS has had his since Christmas 2008 and has had some project going on it constantly since then (I'm not exaggerating). It's starting to break. Another one is on the list for Christmas this year.

All 3 of my Lego builders routinely use the base plates for various purposes.
