Guest oblillion
What antivirus do you use? Or antispyware.
Tohru
Nod32. It's a little more pricey, but it runs in the background and has found stuff that other AV programs have missed. Plus it has spyware already included. You'd just need the anti-virus and not the system security. Krista in LA
I discovered Kaspersky Internet Security after trying lots of different ones. I'm all for free so I tried several different free ones which seemed to work ok, but my computer would get bogged down. I got a deal on the Kaspersky and it takes care of everything for me. My computer is as fast as ever and it's stopped several viruses, etc from getting to my computer. Love it. We have it running on 3 different computers with the parental controls on 2 of them and they have all been safe even with the carelessness of the kids on the internet. Wyndie
Avast antivirus (free) Spyware Blaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware (paid version), Malwarebytes Bumping this thread b/c it seems silly to start a new one when this one isn't very old. RC, do you find the free Avast to be enough or do you have to use all of the other software too? Looking at their site, the free doesn't seem to be much (or perhaps they're just trying to sell their pricier stuff?). I'm looking for a completely free system right now. Our Norton just ran out and we don't have $$ to spend on antivirus but I'm afraid not to have something. Best recommendations for free are appreciated! Thank you. Guest hypertrooper
I'm using ZenOK Free Antivirus at the mo and that doesn't chew though my RAM and it have a gaming mode. Only thing is that you have to go into task manager (or process explorer, if you have this) and shut it down that way, but I think that most anti-virus programs are like that nowadays. tntgoodwin
I use Avira. (it is free) I refuse to use Kaspersky, I don't trust the maker.
Nestof3
SVG is my standard antivirus. I love it. They even warn you before entering site. (free) It works amazingly, and I never even know it's doing anything. I also use Malwarebytes and Spybot when I think something is going on. (free) Malwarebytes was the only thing that saved our computer back when we were using BitDefender (I hate that antivirus). I use Ad Muncher to prevent seeing ads. (costs) PS -- Norton and Mcafee both slow down my computer. I won't use them. Edited March 4, 2011 by nestof3

Sheila in OK
This is what we currently use as well. In fact I was just searching for 'free' programs since I got a notification that our Kapersky expires in 16 days. But I'm thinking I might should just cough up the money and renew ($39.95, I think) since it seems to be doing the job. I've noticed in the regular 'reports' it sends out, it has detected and elminated several viruses in the last year. So I think it does work pretty well!
