Holly in FL
I always try a new cookie or confection recipe every holiday season...and, this year I've decided to make Kentucky Bourbon Balls. However, each recipe I found says to use a different bourbon...and, that the bourbon suggested is "the best." Smiles! I know nothing about bourbon. I did find a few sites that review bourbons...and, a few of the top names are: Knob Creek, Pappy Van Winkle's, Maker's Mark, and Woodford. As I said...I know nothing about bourbon...but, when the taste described says it ends with a nice "leather"...I'm a bit skeptical to use it. Smiles! One site that says Knob Creek is the best is not as highly recommended on another site. Sigh... The two that were most recommended for bourbon balls are Knob Creek and Maker's Mark. Can anyone help me decipher which (any bourbon...not just those two) to use for bourbon balls? Do you have another recommendation? Thanks so much...hiccup! ~Holly
Susann
I've always used Makers Mark and the lushy members of the family seem to approve:D
Brigitte
Knob Creek and Maker's Mark are two high quality bourbons. You can't go wrong with either, but they are pricey.

Holly in FL
Yes...yes, I know! $34 is a lot of money when I will only need about 4 tablespoons. I need to check ABC Liquor to see if they carry the tiny bottles. Thanks! ~Holly
Emmy
our liquor store has those tiny bottles - that is probably a better way to go unless you want to sip bourbon in the afternoons for the next couple months lol
Holly in FL
Well, with the stress of the holidays coming...it might not be a bad idea to have it on hand. HA! Just kidding...I think. Smiles! ~Holly

OnTheBrink
I always use cheap spiced rum and my dad (who's the one I make these for) loves them. However, a larger liquor store (like Friar Tuck's) may have the tiny, single serve bottles.
golfcartmama
Go to the liquor store and ask, they usually have small bottles behind the counter (b/c they can be 'lifted' easily). I do this for rum for rum cakes! I have found that the darker the better in baking anyway!
