ProudGrandma
Has anyone here used these books past the 3rd set? I am using them now with my 6 year old and I really love them. I also have an 8 year old who is an ok reader, but struggles soemtimes and I would like to make him more confident and was wondering if a later set of these books would help with that...any thoughts for me?? Thanks
ProudGrandma
Does the fact that nobody has responded mean that most people don't use I see sam...or not beyond the 3 set of books??
m0mmaBuck
I am using the I See Sam books with my 4 yo but we are only on the first set. I was hoping someone else would respond.
ElizabethB
I think Ottakee does, and maybe some other folks on the special needs board, you might have better luck if you post over there. Their is a Yahoo group for the books, as well, I'm sure someone on that has! Edited October 6, 2010 by ElizabethB
tangomoon
We used them at the school where I taught 4th grade a few years back, and I sometimes had students who needed to go back to the I See Sam books. They seemed to be helpful for them to build their fluency and learn sounds that they had missed in the earlier grades.
AngieW in Texas
I only went as far as set 4 with my dd. She didn't like the way that the main characters of the stories changed from animals to people for most of the stories in set 4. She didn't want to continue with the series after people showed up in the stories. I think it would have been very good for her to continue with the series all the way up through set 8, but she threatened a closed-mouth strike, so I never ordered set 5. Exactly the same situation here:001_huh: The Yahoo group is very helpful, so you might want to ask there.
StephanieF
I've used them all and they are brilliant! The really nice thing about them is that the stories are not babyish at all and my ds loved them. They would be suitable for an 8 yr old. ProudGrandma
another question then...does this series work well alone without a phonics progam or have you always used these books with a different phonics program...
ProudGrandma
oh, and how would I go about placing my 8 year old son? there are no samples or placement tests on the website that I can find.
Tress
I would contact the people from Piper books, the UK site that sells the I See Sam books. Geraldine is very nice and very helpful. She will surely help you determine the right placing. http://www.piperbooks.co.uk/index.htm
AngieW in Texas
http://iseesam.com/downloads/ResourceMaterialsSets1-8.pdf This may take a while to load because it's 99 pages, but it has pre and post tests for each set.
