Embassy
What do you use to record grades? For some strange reason I thought I could purchase a grade book at Staples. Right now I am looking for something accessible.

SBP
I use Home School Tracker + and love it, but if I didn't have that, I'd probably keep grades in Excel. I've never used a pencil and paper gradebook, but maybe someone else will have some suggestions. Good luck :) SBP
Researcher
I use Home School Tracker + and love it, but if I didn't have that, I'd probably keep grades in Excel. SBP Same here. Although, we're not required to keep grades. DS just wants them.
mom31257
This year I am using a lesson planner for each child that has small boxes in the upper right corner of each block. I list the grades in those. I made my own planner that I have a sheet for recording quarterly grades. You can read about those here. In the past, I've written all their grades on the work. Each quarter I would go through it and come up with an overall grade for the quarter. I don't grade everything. I always grade a quiz or test, writing assignment, or a project. For some subjects, such as Bible, I give a subjective grade that I base on my observance of their understanding and their participation. elegantlion
You can find paper grading books at a teacher supply store. While I prefer a paper planner, for grade I use http://www.engrade.com. It's free and quite a nice set-up. I don't grade everything, but it's very easy to use. regentrude
I record everything electronically on my computer, with a backup on another computer.
Love2teach0307
I'm a paper and pencil type so I record grades in my planner. I have to turn in a number grade twice a year and I just do weekly assessments in reading, writing, phonics, language and math plus Bible memory. I jot down the weekly grade in the back of my planner so it's easy to go back and get an average. For history and science I just grade our notebook we put together instead of using tests.
