Grade keeping

This year I am using a lesson planner for each child that has small boxes in the upper right corner of each block. I list the grades in those. I made my own planner that I have a sheet for recording quarterly grades. You can read about those here.

In the past, I've written all their grades on the work. Each quarter I would go through it and come up with an overall grade for the quarter.

I don't grade everything. I always grade a quiz or test, writing assignment, or a project. For some subjects, such as Bible, I give a subjective grade that I base on my observance of their understanding and their participation.

I'm a paper and pencil type so I record grades in my planner. I have to turn in a number grade twice a year and I just do weekly assessments in reading, writing, phonics, language and math plus Bible memory. I jot down the weekly grade in the back of my planner so it's easy to go back and get an average. For history and science I just grade our notebook we put together instead of using tests. HTH
