Janelless
Did anyone make the mummy chicken from the activity book? Is it very messy and smelly? We live in an apartment and that's coming up quickly...so I guess I gotta decide! OR should I try the apples or is there something else that is fun? We're all for trying the chicken if it's not to stinky! HELP again! Janelle
TaraHen
We're vegan, so can't help you with the chicken-- but we mummified an apple and it was fine. So, if you hear back that the chix mummy is a stinky project, you could always try the apple to keep good relations w/ the neighbors :001_smile:
Guest weavingmomma
We are working on this project right now(we're on week 2) and it isn't smelly at all. My ds added in a little pumpkin pie spice with the salt mixture so it actually smells pretty good.
joannqn
We did it a couple years ago. I recommend doing a cornish game hen, not a full sized chicken like we did. Link to Blog
bbrandonsmom
I was wondering the same thing. Thanks :)
jenadina
What I want to know is, where do you keep it? In a tupperware container on the counter? In the fridge? Where? I looked in the STOW AG and didn't see where to store the mummy-in-progress.
Janelless
You know I've been trying to figure that one out myself. One of the links here looked like it was stored in a big bucket?
anneofalamo
what a great thought on the game hens!! Two weeks, our home will be mummifying one!! Who'd a thunk it?:001_huh:
joannqn
I had mine double bagged in gallon-sized freezer Ziploc inside a Tupperware container.
melmichigan
Depending on the age of your DC, the History Channel or National Geographic has a special where they mummify a sheep, in the same manner as they did in ancient Egypt. My kids watched it repeatedly and it saved me from mummifying anything. :D I have the name written down my lesson planner, but I found it on one of their websites. KAR120C
We did a Cornish game hen and kept it in a big (gallon?) ziplock bag. That was sufficient. The other thing is I don't remember how the instructions were written, but you should change the salt a few times the first day. It gets really wet at the beginning, but if you keep changing it as soon as it's soggy, the next day it's much drier.
