SOTW and Mummies

Did anyone make the mummy chicken from the activity book? Is it very messy and smelly? We live in an apartment and that's coming up quickly...so I guess I gotta decide! OR should I try the apples or is there something else that is fun? We're all for trying the chicken if it's not to stinky!

HELP again!

We are working on this project right now(we're on week 2) and it isn't smelly at all. My ds added in a little pumpkin pie spice with the salt mixture so it actually smells pretty good.

Depending on the age of your DC, the History Channel or National Geographic has a special where they mummify a sheep, in the same manner as they did in ancient Egypt. My kids watched it repeatedly and it saved me from mummifying anything. :D I have the name written down my lesson planner, but I found it on one of their websites.

We did a Cornish game hen and kept it in a big (gallon?) ziplock bag. That was sufficient. The other thing is I don't remember how the instructions were written, but you should change the salt a few times the first day. It gets really wet at the beginning, but if you keep changing it as soon as it's soggy, the next day it's much drier.
