Maura in NY
I'm looking for non-textbook ideas for covering 1/2 year of Economics for a bright 12th grader with a heavy schedule already. WTM board gleanings so far: Thomas Sowell's Basic Economics -- probably denser we want, but I have it already. Whatever Happened to Penny Candy w/Study Guide? Kahn Academy Videos (Current Economics, Banking & Money, Venture Capital, etc) The Ascent of Money - PBS Videos For those of you who've done Econ, what have you used? Thanks, Maura
Blue Hen
My ds took AP Econ through PA HS'ers and one resource they used were the Teaching Companies Econ lectures. Use just the lectures for a non-textbook approach to cover the Econ requirement. You could focus upon either Micro or Macro Econ and watch just half the lectures for 1/2 credit. creekland
We used the Teaching Company's Econ lectures and gave half a credit for the whole program. I plan to do it again with my middle son.
Photo Ninja
We used Teaching Co, videos along with several books. There is also the book: Economics in One Lesson
TravelingChris
I used the Economics book for Dummies. It was very inclusive and basically taught basic micro-economics and macro-economics.

Maura in NY
I'd completely forgotten that I have the Teaching Company econ lectures in audio-only format. Those together with the other things we have ought to do the trick. Thanks, ladies! Maura
AngieW in Texas
I plan on using Thinkwell's Microeconomics for that. It is designed to be a one-semester course, but you have a full calendar year to compelte it. all the work is done on the computer.
~blessedmom~
I was browsing Econ Lectures and came upon this: http://www.conservapedia.com/Economics_Lectures It's a 15 week course read online.
2cents
My son did Whatever Happened to Penny Candy but I'm not convinced it is High School Level. He ended up taking an AP Macroeconomics course through the virtual school that he used for his HS transcript and college credit.
