ChrissySC
Is there anything similar to LoF for multiplication? It seems to me I read something somewhere, but I have no idea what it was. I remember there was some related English within that series (I think) ... maybe something about an island level. Does this help? Yes, you can laugh now! I'm going to find that island. Remember that post "going crazy"? I found crazy. Need directions?
TKDmom
MCT Language Arts has an Island level, but no math. Sorry.
ChrissySC
Anyone with any ideas? The concept is fine. We have understanding. I want use and repitition with a neat flare. Since I, obviously, haven't a clue as to what I thought I read, LOL. Ideas?
Dmmetler
Brian P. Cleary's Math is CATegorical series, maybe? We've read several of them, and my DD LOVES them. There's a related Grammar series, too, which is also quite good.
3Rivers
This may be way off, so sorry if I'm missing it, but Times Tales is great stuff for learning the multiplication facts. That's all it is, though.
kwg
Maybe something by Greg Tang? I have not read The Phantom Tollbooth but it has math and english in it I think? Maybe something off this list will ring a bell: http://www.livingmath.net/MultiplicationDivision/tabid/317/Default.aspx Let us know! I am curious :bigear:
ChrissySC
I'm still looking. :) Anyone else?
Dawn E
Perhaps you were thinking of Noble Knights of Knowledge I've heard it referenced in threads about similar items to the format of Grammar Island (which is strictly grammar) and LoF. I have not used it, so I can't vouch for it; however, I have used Times Tales with great success. I was about ready to pull my hair out when I decided to try it, and we've been very satisfied with the results. We also just recently purchased The Adventures of Penrose the Mathematical Cat (and More Adventures...). I haven't started using them yet, but they may be of some interest as well. Edited May 14, 2010 by Dawn E added one more idea
ChrissySC
Thanks everyone ... I have some great choices now! I will let you know what we choose and how it works to reinforce the math before LoF. :)
Rosie_0801
Have you looked at CSMP. I've not read through the materials yet, only a few reviews, but they do have mention of stories, so maybe it is what you are looking for. Rosie
EppieJ
Big Brainz has a multiplication drill online game called Timez Attack. It does drill up to x12. It's set up like a computer game where your character "battles" ogre-type creatures by solving multiplication problems. Don't know what your girls will think of it, but it was a hit my ds and his friends. :D
Guest Alte Veste Academy
Teach Your Child the Multiplication Tables gets fabulous reviews. It's on my wish list for when we hit that in math.
