locks of love question

Recommended Posts

Hannah (dd 9) has been growing her hair out for Locks of Love. It is nearly 10"...I think...kind of depends on where you start measuring....anyway, with it being so fine, it has been a struggle since the beginning to keep it combed and not tangled. Last night, in tears, she said she didn't care if it was long enough, she just wanted it cut...she said she hated it being long and was tired of it. I would hate to let her cut it if it isn't long enough, or have it cut and then her short hair be way too short for her liking too....especially for Easter. The other thing I considered, is talking to our hair dresser and have cut as close to 10" as possible (and still get a cute haircut) and just tell Hannah that is was long enough. OR is this the time to teach her commitment and endurance and insist that tough it out to the end...whatever that means. What would you do??

I would cut it and find something else to do that is of service to others. Locks of Love can cause so much pressure. My dd was harassed about her long hair for years because she didn't give it away. It's a good time to teach her that there are many ways to give of ones self. And she'll look so cute in her Easter pictures. :)

How long has it been since she decided she wanted it cut? If she's just decided, you might encourage her to wait another week or so, just to be sure. If she's sure, I'd just let her decide. I just donated to Locks of Love (and it's still to my shoulders) simply because I hadn't bothered to get my hair cut. I'd been planning on going in for a cut for a long time. But finally I just couldn't stand it anymore. My hair was making me feel CRAZY. It had to go. Once I hit that point, I had it cut by the end of the week. If it's stressing her, I vote to let her cut it, cause long hair can be such a pain!:)

I wouldn't let her make a decision in frustration. If she decided Thursday, then Saturday, if she's POSITIVE, then sure.

The Pantene thing sounds GREAT! '

But it's her head. She definitely should do as she pleases with it (within reason, of course). And she'll learn from the experience either way.

Now I'm sitting here wondering if I have 8 or 10 inches as I was hoping go get a haircut this morning.

My daughter has been recently diagnosed with cancer and has just recently lost all her hair. We have researched numerous hair wig companies. I would not recommend locks of love for donation. They charge for their wigs AND have very stringent requirements in order to get a wig from them. VERY frustrating.

I have included a few links for other hair donations companies that you can make to & they don't require 10"

BUT I would not make her grow it any longer. This has to be her decision - not yours.

I just went to the wigsforkids.org site & it says a minimum of 12 inches is needed. My dd is growing her hair out for locks of love...she's got enough to cut now but it would be too short for her so she's continuing to let it grow. Thanks for the additional links. :001_smile:

sorry to hear about your daughter...thanks for the links...children with hairloss will take 8" or longer...that we have...so I think that is where I will be going. I didn't know about Locks of Love having those requirements..that is too bad. THanks again.
