Mrs Mungo
It depends upon what they are interested in. Just a few of the things we've liked: Non-fiction/documentary: Planet Earth Drive Thru History various National Geographic programs various Nova programs various IMAX programs Prehistoric Planet Prehistoric America various Standard Deviants programs (we really like the Shakespeare videos) Historical movies Scarlet Pimpernel Horatio Hornblower Henry V
choirfarm
Ok, you have asked a wide open question. We don't have cable, but use Netflix extensively for school. What time period or topics are you interested in???? We love documentaries and educational things. My children are 9th, 7th and 2nd. We watched HBO's John Adams with minor editing this past summer. It was excellent. We just finished watching Ken Burn's special on Mark Twain and American Experience: USS Grant and we all enjoyed those. Can you narrow it down??? Pam L in Mid Tenn
I wish Netflix would allow us to search by subject and not only by title. We watched NOVA exclusivly as our science for several years in a row when my teens were little. I am amazed at how much they learned and retained even when I thought it was way over their heads. creekland
If they have Modern Marvels, many of those are superb. There are several different subjects from George Washington Carver to corn. Literally... I believe they've done hundreds of episodes (history, products, machines, etc) almost all of which my family loves. I don't know if Netflix has them though as we don't use Netflix. I tape them from the History Channel.
Handmaiden
We've watched many of the History Channel specials with Netflix DVDs. I believe you can use "History Channel" as search keywords to find the various titles. My sons have especially enjoyed the ones dealing with the space program. lisabees
We watch tons from Netflix. Ds13's faves are Guns, Germs and Steel; Michael Palin's Around the World in 80 Days and all of his others; Connections; anything by Terry Jones; Extreme Engineering, Doing Da Vinci, and PBS Empires. I hear great things about We Shall Remain, When We Left Earth and Life of Birds. ETA: For fun, our family LOVES the Robin Hood series and look forward to Merlin, Horatio Hornblower, Crusoe, Legend of the Seekers, I Claudius and Firefly/Serenity.
