TrixieB
My 9yo has seen some of a Drive Thru History DVD and wants me to buy the DVDs. I see that there are several different series available; I'd possibly consider the U.S. history series. However, I need to know how religiously-based these are. Dh is opposed to teaching from a providential/Christian viewpoint. He doesn't mind if the book/materials mention that a specific person was a Christian; he doesn't want the teaching to be pushing theology. SonshineLearner
you can get them from... one of the Christian channels.. for free:-) Liberty Kids is good too:-)
lisak
We recently purchased these DVD's. I don't think the narrator pushes a specific theology, but they are Christian based. The ancients show the beginnings of the Christian church and what western civilization has received from Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece. They also talk about who was martyred and by what Caesar. I've only seen one of the America ones, so far, and the focus is on Christianity. They show the historical roots of America by going back to England, Holland, and showing where the forefathers sailed from and where they landed. This is all done from a Christian point of view. Hope this helps a bit, Lisa
Crimson Wife
I've seen the ones on Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. They are explicitly Christian, with a Protestant flavor but it's pretty subtle. I don't recall anything that I as a Catholic Christian had too much of a problem with theologically.
OnTheBrink
My dd loves these! Where can you get them for free?? To answer the OP, yes, they're Christian. Focus on the Family endorses them. I'm not a huge FotF fan, but I think the dvd's are great. My dd, who normally hates history, will watch these.
Mrs Mungo
Netflix has a few of them, if you are a Netflix subscriber.
OnTheBrink
Netflix has a few of them, if you are a Netflix subscriber. Yes, I've gotten some from netflix. I want to OWN them and call them all mine! :D
LizzyBee
I've heard that TBN has them. If you have cable, you probably get TBN.
creekmom
I record them (DVR) on the TBN channel. My kids LOVE these. I think they are very well done, and my husband enjoys watching these too. (We are Christians, but he's not into watching anything preachy at all!) The host is "cool" - and has a great personality. I've learned all kinds of things I didn't know about American history, and it's great to see where it all took place! I don't think you'll be disappointed in the American history ones, but I haven't seen the others.
TrixieB
Thanks everybody! It sounds like these would probably be okay -- and Netflix is a great idea! I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to check our cable TV lineup to see if we get TBN; that'll be another good option.
TN Mama
I'm amazed with the gems I learn about on here daily! Thanks for the heads up about TBN. I just set the DVR for the rest of the week!
