Surfside Academy
I've been thinking about next year and I'm still torn about Latin. I definitely see the value and very much want my boys exposed to Latin but I just can't seem to get to it. My oldest did Prima Latina last year and complained the entire time (although I really liked the program.) I tried Lively Latin this year but again, without much success. Would focusing on a Latin Roots program instead of a full Latin curricula be as valuable? I know I'd be missing some grammar but they would still be getting a lot of valuable language skills. I haven't acutally looked at Latin Vocabulary program yet but I thought I'd just throw it out there. Has anyone gone this route or have any thought?? Amy in KS
I've been wondering the same thing. Thinking about using English from the Roots Up instead of Latin for now.
hweakland
I have not used it but I have heard much praise for English from the Roots Up.
Alyeska
We use Vocabulary from Classical Roots. So far, so good. The lessons are short and sweet, dd is expanding her vocabulary, and all in 10 minutes a day. To me, knowing the roots is much more important than learning the language itself. It isn't spoken as a first language anymore. So for us, a full on Latin program isn't practical. It is too much of a time investment for a relatively small benefit, especially considering the many excellent root programs available now. ElizabethB
It's better than no Latin at all! I have a friend who did roots in High School, he said it helped him on his verbal SATs and also was helpful in nursing and nursing school.
