SonshineLearner
Hi There, I'm wondering how you decide what you'll pay for used books. I have a set that I'd like from someone... of a few different books. The total new, without discount would be $91.46. So, how do you decide what it's worth to purchase used?? :-) Carrie
missmoe
For me, it's usually half of the new price.
Jennifer in MI
Depends on what is being offered. If it's one book or a couple books, 50% of new. If it's a set of books (like a Sonlight Core), I've paid upwards of 75% of new.
SonshineLearner
Hmmm. so I know I could get 10% off the regular price... if I order the set. I was thinking $60. but perhaps that's not being fair. :-)
Dobela
I always ask them first if they are willing to sell and for how much. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by the low price they are willing to sell them for. It is sometimes less than I would have offered. Tree House Academy
I think it depends on lots of factors. Is your price the purchase new with or without shipping? Is the sale price going to be with or without shipping? Typically, I am also willing to pay different amount at different times of the year. If I can wait for the item (as in I don't need it until next school year), then I am looking for rock-bottom prices. If I need it YESTERDAY, I will pay 75% or more. Any little discount helps. Typically, after shipping, I end up paying between 60% and 75% of the new price for any given item.

KidsHappen
Whenever negotiating the price of any item, he who first states a number usually loses. Do as previous pp suggested and ask what the person is willing to take and then work from there.
