jillian
So we are HUGE book people...we constantly are reading and going to bookstores/libraries/etc. I am looking for some good books for the 2-3 yr old set. I looked at Five in a Row and some of their suggestions but aren't familiar with many of them (the ones I am familiar with we already have). Do you guys have any suggestions for some good books for that age set...or older preschool age since we read to her. I am planning on spending about $100-130 on new books for her for Christmas. I am thinking at least some Mother Goose fairy tales (already purchased a toddler version of Aesop's Fables for her).
Alice
My 3 yr old loves: anything by Rosemary Wells (especially the Max and Ruby books) Eric Carle books Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle Curious George books Nancy Tafuri books Karma Wilson bear books (Bear Snores On, Bear Wants More, etc) the Jane Yolen dinosaur books (How do Dinosaurs say Good Night, etc) Lois Ehlert books You could also check out the list from Before Five in a Row that are more for that age. I use that with my 3 yr old and he loves it. Books from there that have especially been winners with him are: We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen the Jesse Bear books by Nancy Carlstrom Caps for Sale
KidsHappen
I am currently buying books for my grandchild that my kids loved when they were kids. Many of the same authors Alice listed. Anything by Eric Carle but we are epsecially fond of The Very Hungry Catapillar. The Bill Martin/Eric Carle books Dr. Suess of course Runaway Bunny My First Real Mother Goose by Blanche Fisher Wright (this is a board book but she also makes an extended hardback that is good as well) Goodnight Moon The If you Give a Mouse a Cookie series There are Madeline and Curious George board books. The Bright & Early board books series. Harold and the Purple Crayon (be prepared for copies on your walls) The Clifford board books Guess How Much I Love You The Tale of Peter Rabbit These ought to get you started. Try to pick ones that you like because you will read them five billion times. My whole family knows some of these by heart so we can read in chorus to the grandbaby. :)
Laura Corin
Some of the stories are easier than others, and they kept us going for years. Sandra Boynton is wonderful too. I would also recommend a complete AA Milne - try it out now, but if the stories are too long come back to it in a year or two. Laura
jillian
Thank you mamas :) Yeah we have a HUGE collection of books already that I am looking to add some longer and/or less infant style books (we have those touch and feel books and such which are great for the car but not very stimulating for mom or dd lol)
