momee
We bought a Sequence game at Target that has States and Capitals instead of playing card faces. Should be a bit of a fun way to do it, I think.
Sasha
My kids have a couple of games--Scrambled States of America is one of them. Another idea is just a map puzzle. To learn the state names I taught them the Fifty Nifty United States song. For the capitals there is an Animaniacs song that teaches this; my husband found it on YouTube. jen210
We love Scrambled States of America (we have the book and game). There is also another great book called Yo! Sacramento which teaches states and capitals. If you ever study presidents you have to get the book Yo! Millard Fillmore. Good luck. Jonibee
My 6-year-old learned all the capitals and states by listening to the US Capitals Songs CD from Larry and Kathy Troxel - Audio Memory Publishing. Very easy, loved it. Joan
Storm Bay
My 6-year-old learned all the capitals and states by listening to the US Capitals Songs CD from Larry and Kathy Troxel - Audio Memory Publishing. Very easy, loved it. Joan Mine used music, too. I'm not sure if it's the same as this or not, but my 14 yo still knows that song, as well as the one on US Presidents we have. So does my 11 yo. 2squared
We are collecting state quarters. I found a collector's map on Amazon for about $10. It's an informal process (and perhaps lengthy), but we are having fun at it.
KarenNC
We're doing it with a book called "Yo Sacramento!," states and capitals flashcards, a pad of blank US maps (continental states) and free online games from http://www.sheppardsoftware.com. I have worked on it with my 3rd (and now 4th) grader, though, not K, so things that require more writing (like labeling the map) may not work as well for you. In The Great White North
We used this song. Dc can still sing it years later.
mazakaal
I'm looking at the Hop Off! game from Rainbow Resource to teach the states to my 5yo & 7yo. Has anyone used this?
Tam101
We used Star Spangled States from Knowledge Quest last year. My son and I both loved it! I can't say enough! You do need the book and workbook, but it's worth every penny.

Narrow Gate Academy
For that age I like the North America Geopuzzle at Timberdoodle.
