momee
Are these bugs?? They're a perfectly round tiny black ball. Looks like quinoa, only black.
momee
Just looked at under our microscope (thanks Sonlight) and it looks the same. A round ball only there's a slight bulging on one side whereas the quinoa seed is perfectly round. ???
gingersmom
I would think its bugs. I have had something similar and had to dump out everything.
KS_
I've seen some of that in my wheat on occasion, and I always thought it was just some weed seed that got in there.
Perry
I don't know how quinoa is processed, but might it be toasted first, resulting in an occasional burned seed?
In the Rain
I've seen that before, and assumed it was weed seeds.
Sharon H in IL
Stop looking at your food so closely. It will spoil your appetite. :D
kokotg
I've seen that before, and assumed it was weed seeds. hmm...weed seeds...this gives me new hope. I have black specks in a brand new 5 gallon bucket of white wheat...I had assumed that meant it was now chicken food. off to google weed seeds! momee
The official bulk lady at our local (well 25 mins away) Whole Foods says the occasional batches of grains are that way. It's perfectly normal. Whew. On our budget, we would eat it anyway really and call it protein :)
Carol in Cal.
In quinoa, I think it's just natural variation. I don't know about the wheat, though.
