chontaveal
I was looking at the Thread were members post their winners for curriculum. Many did not like Wordly Wise. I was planning on using it for the first time this year with my 6th grader. Can you give me some feedback...likes and dislikes? Thanks
JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
We like it, it has been successful. It is also a quick lesson and doesn't need to take overly much time. No one moans at having to do their lessons (except the son who isn't impressed with the pink writing on the cover of the current volume). The down side is that it isn't exciting. There aren't any fun games or flash and bang. Read and review words, do some exercises, use words in context for comprehension, a few enrichment activities involving topics like prefixes and suffixes. We do use the extra tests at the end of every lesson.

It isn't flashy, but my kids don't complain and they have retained what they have learned. We are using it again this year.
TXMary2
We have used WW for 4 years now and I love it. It doesn't take a lot of time and it is very thorough.
Granny_Weatherwax
We loved Wordly Wise and would still be using it if we weren't switching to MCTLA. I have the WW books and will use them if DS wants supplementary vocab.
1bassoon
Love it. Do it every year. Not flashy, but good solid learning of vocab via workbook i.e. Mom's not involved! And at this stage of the game, a workbook or two that can be done independently is Not. A. Bad. Thing. At all.
Sheila in OK
I'm thinking of using this for my 6th grade dd next year too. I was just looking at this at Rainbow Resource. Which edition do most of you use? The 3000 2nd edition?
vettechmomof2
My daughter loves it and I like that it is quickly done without any trouble.
kanagnostos
Ds doesn't really **like** Wordly Wise, especially the last exercise in which he has to read a passage and answer the questions using the vocabulary words. However, since starting with it this past year, he often comes to me and points out words in his reading that he has studied with Wordly Wise. That tells me it's getting the job done! I'm planning to continue with it.
Colleen in SEVA
We loved Wordly Wise and would still be using it if we weren't switching to MCTLA. I have the WW books and will use them if DS wants supplementary vocab. I like WW so much I am having B do it AND the MCT. :D
Avila
We love it here. We have been using the 3000 series for three years, and vocabulary was my DD's highest score on the Stanford.
Heather in OK
My girls love it! I like how I can mix vocabulary with spelling. They are actually learning about the words they are learning to spell. :)
chontaveal
Heather, I also thought about using it for spelling. So do you give them a spelling test at the end of the week?
KnightMaiden
we used wordly wise and enjoyed it however it is very "work book". If you child enjoys that then they should be fine. Another great resourse we found this year for vocabulary is the books called "vocabulary cartoons". They are quick, easy, and fun for the kids. momtotkbb
I used it w/ dd when we first started hsing and she really didn't care for it and struggled with it ---I didn't realize until later that I had started her about 2 years ahead of her grade level bec I didn't understand the numbering system they used before:) Anyway, I picked it up for my ds 11 and dd 13 to use this year ---while not flashy it does appear thourough and something that they can do without me! I also like that the website http://www.wordlywise3000.com has on-line games, etc. that you can use with each level ---that for me is just a little added extra.
