Michelle My Bell
What is your last homeschool activity of the year and how well does it go over? I am looking for something new for our group. Our showcase night has been a flop the last few years and it is time for something new! Thanks, Michelle
Cindy in NY
Well, the group I am loosely associated with has an "end of no-school picnic." We have never attended but it seems to be widely enjoyed. They have games, a clown and a moving-up ceremony with certificates of some sort.
KYHokiemom
We have an 'Achievement Night' where kids receive an achievement certificate and carnation from Mom and Dad and can have a small table with projects from the year. We have light refreshments and call it a year! It's simple, but a nice recognition and fellowship time.
Ibbygirl
Mine has "Promotion Night" where they call out all the individual students for each grade and give them a certificate of completion for that grade. They take their class pictures for each grade and they go into the yearbook which they get about a month later. We also have a pot luck dinner party after and the kids get their friends to sign autographs. They also get together over summer for free movies, water parks etc, but the promotion night is to signal the end of the school year and the start of the summer fun. :)
Avila
We just have an end-of-the-year swim party and potluck at the house of one of our leaders. It was a lot of fun this year!
Sonshine
Pool parties. We also have a pool party to start the year, and lots of pool birthday parties and let's just meet everyone at a pool get togethers. We are in the south and have a lot of reasonably priced pools around us. The kids love swimming and once the kids can swim it's an easy thing to do. teamturner
We have a Spring Program (also have a Winter Program to end the fall) where many classes make a presentation to show what they have learned. Some teachers set up a table to display students work, etc. This year teachers gave out awards to recognize students w/good attitudes, helpfulness, behavior, etc. We also have a Silent Auction to raise money for the co-op. swellmomma
They organized a camp out for the last two years. Actually it is tonight, but we opted to stay home.
Rosy
We have a showcase at the same time as we normally meet (during the day on Friday), which means a lot of the dads can't come, but some do. We do performances from individuals and classes. I love it--I love getting to watch the older kids, who have pursued their passions, be able to share with so much confidence and skill. It renews my commitment to homeschooling every year. After that we do a blacktop picnic and party, with a bouncy castle, bubbles, squirt guns, obstacle races, etc.
mom2att
We have a banquet. The cooking class prepares the food (assisted by a chef), and the middle/high school kids help serve it. It's a good meal and the kids like helping. The family members attending pay $5 per meal, the kids serving are free, with group funds paying their food expenses. After eating we have a chance to thank and recognize our teachers for the year, promote all students to the next grade, and finish with a dvd slideshow of our year in review.
