Thanks. http://www.slate.com/id/2185486/?GT1=38001 Very interesting and not the first time that a study has shown American students to be "stunningly ignorant." I gave the sample test to my fifth grader. He nailed every single question! I feel encouraged.
Beth in SW WA
...about Highschoolers http://www.slate.com/id/2185486/?GT1=38001 Here is what my dc's former private school is teaching in their high school -- EBAY classes! Am I crazy, or is this nonsense? Teaching how to sell on Ebay to your dc at home is one thing -- but to pay tuition $$ for this? http://www.columbian.com/news/localNews/2008/02/02182008_Looking-for-an-A-on-eBay.cfm
LisaNY
Very interesting and not the first time that a study has shown American students to be "stunningly ignorant." I gave the sample test to my fifth grader. He nailed every single question! I feel encouraged. WOW! And it had 30+ questions! Good for him and good for you, Mom! :) My 13yo. dd took it, and she got four wrong.
Brigid in NC
I know that I am regularly flabbergasted at the most common fact that my wonderful high school son does not know . . . like the price of a postage stamp (and he wasn't even close!). haha ~Brigid
Annie N
I do not know where to post this to share, is about Highschoolers...if it does not belong here, please forgive me and move it where it best is suited. Thanks. http://www.slate.com/id/2185486/?GT1=38001 Since I was in high school before No Child Left Behind, I would totally disagree that the blame rests on NCLB!!! Most of my classmates would have been able to only answer half or fewer of these questions, and I would done better only because I was a compleat bookworm. LisaNY
nt I thought the site showed the actual test. (?) There are 30+ Q. on 5 pages.
Hoggirl
I didn't get what those little numbered squares were all about. It's a good thing technology isn't covered (snicker ) When people can't answer questions like these it makes me think of Jay Walking on the Tonight Show.
