  1. Larla, another question about the supergreen powder.Does the scoop equal 8 oz? Do you have one glass per day? I looked up the health benefits and it is amazing.
  2. Thanks so much. This sounds delicious!! AND low carb, AND healthy!
  3. But aren't these "good" carbs?
  4. Sorry, HWC??? And what are the health benefits to this? I already take NOW Special Two High Potency multiples. I am not to familiar with "supergreen" foods. Sorry if I am ignorant on this. I see that people add this to their protein shake. But if you are low carbing, wouldn't protein pack on the weight? Thanks for all the info.!
  5. I had thought so. The internet can really take things and spin it. Even snopes couldn't confirm nor deny(Or wouldn't) Thanks for this. :grouphug:
  6. I couldn't read the label very well. But do you know how much iron is in this? Also, does it make you ummmm........gassy? :bored: And what is the main benefit of driniking this? What do you mix yours with? Thanks, it looks great.
  7. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!! :grouphug: I got this on hold at the Library. I understand he died in 2003 from a fall. Snopes is reporting that the rumor of him dying of a heart attack is unconfirmed. But he did have a heart attack in 2002. Still, nobody will confirm if this is due to his own way of eating. Thoughts on this?
  8. Well I am def. under 100 grams. BUT, with that said I will assume that even if you were to stay under that amount, it should not include breads of any kind. Pasta, potatoes etc. I would love to know about making my own low carb bread. Even though I have never baked any bread in my whole life. Or, is there a bread out there that is low carb with a low GI index?
  9. I guess I don't really need the science behind it, but it wouldn't hurt for me to watch those. I guess I need either a website or book. Atkins or South Beach? Something else? I need something that lays it all out. I also need something that will be easy to stick with after to maintain. I do not want to eliminate dairy. But I do want to stay on low carb. But what constitutes "low carb"? how many carbs per day? This is why I need things laid out for me. I don't do well winging it. :grouphug: Can someone tell me about baking with Almond flours? Or alternative flours?
  10. Thanks for the answer on the Carbquick. Here is the other issue I have. I have read so much my head is going to explode. I have borderline high trigs and impaired fasting glucose. I know that low carb is the way to go. BUT, I have read YES to fats(Like Atkins) and it will lower your trigs. And NO, cut carbs but stay away from fats or it will raise your trigs. (Fats as in butter, cream, bacon, red meats, etc). All I know is that I want to get my trigs down(they are 197 currently) and have NO clue what is true and what is false. My HDL/LDL were good.(not GREAT but within normal limits). So, YES to fats, or NO to fats? AND, I have read YES to high fiber breads because we need good carbs, all the way down to NO WAY, do not eat ANY wheat breads at all. Ok. I need a website/book something to tell me what the heck is good for me and how to get my glucose and trigs down. I am already exercising. I have a headache. :confused1: ETA: Speaking of coconut oil, I have also read this is bad, bad, bad. It can raise your LDL's. Ughhhhhhh....................Ok, again I need a book, a website that lays it all out on the line for me. A list of foods to eat, and ones to stay away from. I already have high blood pressure. So I do not want to end up a type 2 diabetic or be forced to be placed on statins. I just have NO idea what I need to stay away from. Remember the "Eat a bowl of oatmeal every morning, it is heart healthy"???? Have you seen the carb count in that? Some say YES, others say NO WAY. Phewwww................Maybe I should have went to college to be a dietitian.
  11. Could someone tell me about protein powders? If you are doing LC, I hear many use protein powders for shakes etc. Is this ONLY for people who exercise a lot? Does it put on weight? I am confused over this. Also, does anyone use Carbquick?
  12. I wonder about the cholesterol issue. Mine is mainly trigs. I need to lower my trig levels. But I am getting many conflicting stories and to whether or not this raises trig levels. I have read a lot of benefits of coconut oil. But I don't want to use something that has a reputation of raising trigs. I am already doing the LC diet an cut way back on sugar, and exercise. I really do not have to lose much weight. My BMI is good. I would like to lose another 5 pounds.
  13. I would like to purchase some Coconut oil. For internal use. Can someone recommend a good one? And what do you use yours for? I hear this stuff is really good for lowering cholesterol among other things. Thanks!
  14. What a beautiful tribute to her. I am so very sorry for you loss. Thank you for sharing this with all of us. :grouphug:
  15. Do you ladies find it cheaper to purchase these items online rather then a health food store? And thank you so much. Yes I am a little overwhelmed.
  16. Been looking at a lot of low carb dessert recipes. Many call for so many different kinds of flours and artificial sweetners. I don't want to buy all this stuff to use only once. I like to make cookies, brownies, muffins, and cakes(chocolate mainly). Some of ingredients I have never even heard of or know where to purchase them. I may have to go online. Do you have a favorite online store you use to purchase flours, sweetners...etc? And what is better for you. Al the recipes call for Splenda. I have Stevia. What do you use?
  17. I never exercised either except for dance class 1X a week. Now, I do Zumba at home. I just go to youtube and look up my favorite songs and do a search for Zumba. So I am doing what I love to do anyways. You don't have to be a dancer to do Zumba. But it does help if you do have some dance background especially when you get into the harder routines. I try to do 30 minutes. But usually I will last about 20. Mondays at dance I go straight through the 45 minute class. But that class is not as hard as Zumba. If you are moving around it helps, but getting that heart rate up for a consistent 30 minutes will benefit you healthwise. I have high blood pressure, and since exercising, it has been so low that I may have to come off the BP med.(98/68).Pick something you love and go for it.
  18. :iagree: This is the big issue. In New England, we obviously do not have bendable palm trees. We have very old oak trees,(even pine) that have limbs as massive as the tree trunks themselves. With the trees already weakened from the other storms, the winds and the fast amount of snow fall is a big concern. It is really starting to pick up in intensity here. When the wind blows, I can't even see out my windows. Nobody is allowed on the roads here after 4 pm. (Except for the obvious). And I happen to like them naming the storms. "Nemo" sounds a lot cooler then "Remember the Blizzard of 78?" :hurray:
  19. We get snow. But rarely this amount in such a short amount of time. The wind is going to be the big issue. We have 200 year old trees surrounding out home and all that snow and wind can make it very dangerous. I remember the blizzard of 78. That was paralyzing. This one is expected to be much worse. Living in New England we should be used to different kinds of weather. But I think we have had enough. Between the tornadoes(which is NOT normal) followed by a microburst. Then this, we are getting hammered. We are not expecting to be cleared out of here for a few days. We are in a blizzard warning with up to 3 feet of snow. Not to be taken lightly.
  20. My daughter is a hairdresser. Yes, you can color clean hair. Just make sure that you have no products in it(gel, hairspray etc)
  21. I actually use the NOW foods multi-vitamin. It is Special Two, and I have been happy with those. So I think I will get the NOW Magnesium Citrate since I am familiar with the product. Thank you!
  22. I know of the powdered forms like Natural Calm. And of course, that looks wonderful. But I really don't want to drink anything. Can someone recommend a good one in pill form? This is to help with constipation.(I take 3 iron pills). I used to get it from my blackstrap molasses, but I ordered a different one that will not have enough RDA of mag,so will probably not help me go. The molasses I was using now for almost 3 years never gave me a problem going to the bathroom, but I just found out that Plantation has 20% iron in comparison to my 4% now. I just don't want to order junk mag citrate.
  23. okay, I understand it now. I ordered this for the extra iron. But the benefit of having magnesium helps me go to the bathroom. My other bottle said 25% of RDA, yes. In one TBSP. I will still take it because of the iron. But it may not have enough magnesium in it to make me "go".(I take 3 iron pills a day, and the Brer Rabbit only had 4% per tbsp. of iron, but higher magnesium) I have magnesium tablets here that I can take. Do mag tablets help you "go" as well? Oh ETA: I take a multivitamin(NOW superfoods) that has magnesium in it.
  24. Yes, well no. The bottle doesn't say it but the rep said the entire bottle had 457mg of magnesium.
