  1. Our 25th wedding anniversary is coming up and we are having an informal party. My 14 yo is a singer. She would like to sing a song for me and my husband to dance to. (Please do not suggest our wedding song because I hate it). Nothing country. Preferably a woman singer but it does not have to be. She can sing just about any singer, but would struggle with a Celine Dion/Mariah Carey/Whitney Houston songs. I have a few ideas. But looking for some input. She usually takes the song and makes it her own. Ideas?
  2. Bumping.............I took two yesterday, but it still does not seem to be turning my stools darker. Not sure if I am absorbing this iron or not.
  3. I was taking Vitron C for about three years and since losing weight it was giving me trouble. I took 3 a day. I couldn't even tolerate one. So I started taking Vita Lady Carbonyl Iron. Same amount of elemental iron as my other one. I am on one a day and just started with two today . But with being on only one my stools( sorry if TMI) did not turn dark or tarry. With one Vitron C my stools would be black. Does this mean I am not absorbing the carbonyl iron? Because so far so good. Thanks!
  4. I'm confused. You take Blackstrap Molasses in a pill form with iron, or you found a different iron in pill form and you take the Molasses separate? I was taking the molasses but stopped because it has magnesium in it and I didn't need any more diarrhea issues.
  5. Thank you SO very much. I ordered the Tender Iron for now. I will take 3 a day(Of course I will start with one first). See if that does not give me any diarrhea. I will also add in a different multivitamin. One that has 18mg of iron, rather then just 10mg. Just centrum chewables. If the new iron agrees with me, (and I hope it does), my bloodwork is being done again in mid-July. Vitron C had 65mg of elemental iron, but it was Ferrous fumerate. So I am still going to get the same amount of iron, pretty much. Let me know when your bloodwork gets done. If the Tender iron agrees with me, I might order the Proferrin. But it was REALLY expensive. So I figured I would start with this for now. You have been great. Thanks so much. PM me if you would like when you get your bloodwork back. Taking iron is a pain, isn't it? Ugh. THANKS!
  6. So you take all of these pills at once? No GI issues? Can you take on empty stomach? Can I split the doses up? Say take 2 of the tender irons in the morning, and one tender iron with the two Proferrin at night? Can you tell me where you order this from? I really, really appreciate all the help. Oh, and what does the zinc do? Thanks a million!
  7. Thanks for answering my questions. Can you tell me what ones you take at what time of the day?
  8. I did some research on this as well. It looks good. Can I ask why you are taking two forms of iron though? And how long have you been taking both of these? Did your Dr. tell you about these types of iron? Are you anemic due to your periods? Thanks for all the information! Oh and do you order it direct from them?
  9. I am looking into all of these. I know Gentle Iron has a good reputation. But it only has 25mg of iron. So I may have to take at least 4-5 a day. I am trying to find out if dosing might be lower with different irons, but not having any luck. I also looked at Vita lady. That is Carbonyl Iron. Looks good as it has Vitamin C in it but I cannot find any reviews for it other then the poster who mentioned it here. As long as it doewn'tgive me diarrhea, and cramping I am good. I can handle constipation. That is what Blackstrap Molasses is for. My hematologist was no help. He is stuck on that darn Vitron C. So now I have to research all this myself. And there is a lot out there. I know I need to stay away from Ferrous Fumerate and sulfate. Thank you ladies!
  10. Oh and heme dr said 3 iron pills was to much. Funny he is the one who told me to take it. Which is why I mentioned 130mg not 195mg. He said two pills of 65 mg of elemental iron. Thanks
  11. Well I have insurance but that is besides the point . I had an awful time with IV iron . I was taking floradix but only as a supplement to my 3 iron pills. I am not sure this would be enough to equal the 130mg of iron I am taking now? And the last time I took this it turned my teeth in back, black. I would probably need to drink a lot of this in some reduced sugar oj so it doesn't stain. It did agree with me but I was only taking half the recommended dose. Do you have heavy periods, ? The issue with me is I bleed every month so I need to stay ahead of the game. Wonder maybe trying this again along with Gentle Iron?
  12. I asked this a little while back. And I was going through the whole thread. But I have more questions. Hopefully you can answer them. I have been taking Vitron C, a high potency iron that has 65mg of elemental iron and 125 of ascorbic acid. I have been on 3 a day for almost 3 years. I have always taken 2 in the morning, with 500mg of Vitamin C, and one at night with 2 of my Special Two Multis. Never, ever had a problem. It is Ferrous Fumerate. This is the link:http://www.drugstore.com/vitron-c-iron-supplement-plus-vitamin-c-coated-tablets/qxp17406 . I have IDA due to my periods. They come about every 25-29 days, last about 6 days, and is quite heavy on day 2. Since taking these, my iron has been stable. Ferrritin hovers between 20-48. I need to mention, that my ferritin was an 8. My Hematologist told me to take IV Iron to get my stores up quicker and assured me there were n side effects. Well, the first round I believe my BP was low and I felt horrible. Next round, was larger dose and they pre-medicated me. I got up from chair, walked down hospital corridor, and passed out. Now, I take meds for HBP, and my BP plummeted to 80/50 or something like that. It was AWFUL. I was never so scared. So after that I said NO WAY to IV Iron. Well, I dropped some weight since January. I was about 142ish, and I am now 125. All I did was cut out sugar, junk food, and white flours and white bread. Starting in March I started getting crampy upper abdominal pains. Then started having diarrhea. Thought it was AS, so I cut that out. Didn't help. Cut out extra Vitamin C, still didn't help. Then I cut out multivitamins(Special Two), and all 3 of my iron. My stomach felt better. So, I added one in at a time. My stomach went back to being crampy, and having diarrhea 1-3X in the morning. I would eat lunch and all my stomach did was grumble and mumble, and gassy. So called my GI Dr. He doesn't feel it is my iron. Yet, I cut out the iron as of yesterday, and took 1/2 tsp Metamucil like he said and I have been so much better. He said to stay on iron, but I needed to know. As soon as I took all the iron away, I felt better. I did take out one about 5 days ago, and cut multivitamin, but it didn't make a bit of difference. I cannot go back to IV Iron. Well, I could. They promised me that would never happen again, but the Dr. also said I would not have any side effects either. Wrong. I do not want an ablation. I have bad health anxiety and that would be horrible for me. I am almost 46. The only way to completely stop iron is if I had hysterectomy. But I am trying to avoid that. I have not been able to get ahold of my Heme Dr. I have no idea what he is going to say. He might say there is no other iron out there I can take that will give me what I needed from the Vitron C, or whatever else I take is going to make me more miserable. I know some people talked about the different kinds of Iron that they take here. One being Gentle Iron. But I guess I need to know, that since I now take a total of 195mg of elemental iron per day, what could I change to that would give me the same dosage, but maybe a different "form" of iron? Gentle iron only has like 27mg of iron in it. So, could I still take that, but if it is more absorbable, maybe not have to take as much then? I am still baffled that all of a sudden the iron may not be agreeing with me. Not sure if it has to due with weight loss. I just had bloodwork done and everything was fine. My ferritin dropped from 33 to 26. But everything else was in normal range. Normal, meaning just a hair above. But I was off my iron for a bit. So I guess I need that much to keep me in range. My goal is to avoid diarrhea(I can deal with constipation, that is easier to fix, Blackstrap Molasses always helps), and to avoid at all cost, IV Iron. Thanks for the help ladies.
  13. Agreeing with the poster about the studio owner. Sorry, but the dance studio owner has the final say in costumes. Otherwise, no decisions would ever be made. Why was this so called vocal mother even allowed to do such a thing? That would never fly at my studio.
  14. Well, stay off the east coast. Boston, NY, Hartford(Windsor Locks). COL is crazy. I would go to TX if it were me.
  15. Thank you.!! Where do you buy it from?
  16. My daughter will be 21 in November. She will not leave until her 21st birthday. I don't blame her. You call the ped Dr. and things get DONE. If she is sick, she goes on same day. Out in the "adult" world, you do not get that kind of quick treatment. Waiting days sometimes for an appt. She is sad to leave. I have one more to go, she is 14. She will not leave either until she is 21.
  17. This is a very good regiman. Molasses helps me "go", plus has the extra iron. Just an FYI, my hematologist told me that when your iron def, is starting to correct itself, many times it will slow the bleeding. So it may not be the molasses. But, then again it could be. Either way, who cares because you are feeling better! Reaching a ferritin of 100 is REALLY hard. Especially if you are bleeding every month. But if you do, please let us know! I will follow your plan(with my own iron dosage of course, and I may have to change due to some GI issues, don't know yet). But never thought of the liver pills.
  18. I think I feel the need to add this. Women who still have their periods, and have a history of iron def. anemia, can NEVER stop taking iron. Even if your levels are fine after 6 months. Once you stop, you are still bleeding once a month and you are going to go back to square one. As long as you are bleeding, you need to be on iron for the rest of your life until you hit menopause. If the bleeding slows or you start to skip periods, then your dosing needs to be adjusted. You cannot overdose on iron as long as you get at least 2 periods a year, and you are on the correct dose. With that said, you NEED a Dr. to check your iron levels every 3 months for a while, then at least every 6 months after. I have been on iron for 3 years, I am 46. I will be on iron until I hit menopause. But, I might be able to lower my dose if I start skipping periods or bleeding less. It is not a good idea to dose yourself(or your child) with iron as you really do not know how much you need, when to add more, when to cut back, or possibly make a switch. I see a hematologist. A primary care can follow your treatment, but they are not as well versed in iron then a Heme Dr.
  19. If she has borderline low ferritin, her Dr should be monitoring her. I also would not switch any iron, if it is upsetting her stomach without checking with the Dr. on dosing. Most people with low ferritin(like me) have to take much higher doses of iron then what is on the bottle. If her hemoglobin is fine, then you want to keep it that way. Low ferritin will eventually cause low HGB, HCT, High RDW-CV counts, Low Sat rate's. And every Dr's opinion on "borderline low" is different. Mine like to see it over 50. The highest I have been is 44. The lowest I have had is 8. But, most Dr's are happy with it over 20.
  20. I understand that when you get married, people are invited even though you are quite certain they will not attend. It is not a reason NOT to send one. But, my DH has cut ties with his mother and siblings. His brother however, has never been involved in any of the so called "drama" in his family because he has never been here with the family. Again, from what we were told by his best friend who HAS seen him quite a few times, is that he has no interest in moving closer to the family, nor does he want to deal with any family drama. Which is one of the main reasons he stays away. I have no doubt, that my MIL will attend. As she should. As far as my in-laws, for all I know this could turn into another "family vacation" that she foots the bill for. (If any of you remember the story a while back with my MIL paying for family vacations, and not bothering to invite my children. Who are all older BTW). But, even IF my DH wanted to reconnect with his brother out on the west coast, AND he could afford to go on his own(Which he cannot, because he has to have surgery on his rotator cuff, and he is self employed, and we are still fighting with workmans comp, and he is our ONLY source of income), this would not be the time to do so. My DH wants nothing to do with his mother or siblings. Here. Not unless things drastically change between him and his mother. My DH would not put my BIL in that position. It would be very awkward. If we get a formal invite, he is going to do what the other poster said. Call and speak with him and see how it goes, or leave him a message. If no contact is made by him back to DH, then we will decline, and will not send a gift. As far as we are concerned, we already had to deal with the selfish and righteous attitude from his own mother . He does not want to add any more of that to his life,or should I say our lives. His mother could have simply fixed all of this, but she chose sides. My Dh has tried speaking to her, and when she tried to plant "seeds" of doubt into his head about our marriage, that was it for him. He said we are a package deal. Either she accepts me, or she doesn't have either one of us. Period. End of story. It has been so nice and quiet. No drama anymore, and I feel like a big weight has lifted. I used to be a doormat. And saying things that people wanted to hear. No more. When I finally had enough, and threw a fit, she didn't like it, and whined to my DH how I "screamed" at her. Get over it. Ok, now my future SIL will be running to Staples to get more ink for her printer..........LOL........  She is in the "in" crowd now. So ya know, she has to prove how wonderful she is, and how horrible I am for asking advice on a "public" board. Ugh, get a life already. :chillpill: :hurray:
  21. :iagree: This. I like this advice, and my husband will contact him if/when we get an invitation. If he doesn't answer and he leaves a message, and no call back again, this is what my DH and I will do. RSVP with a no, and no gift. For now, we will not do anything with the Save the Date card until we get a formal invite.
