  1. Following. I would love to find a resource like this as well.
  2. I'm very sorry to hear about your partner's health. But I'm also selfishly glad that you are still working on this. I hope I don't miss it when you post that's it's finished!
  3. Looking for a geography program that my 8th grader can do mostly independently. Secular, please, and preferably inexpensive, if I'm not asking too much.
  4. Thank you. I have tried doing a search, but I haven't come up with much. Maybe I'm not using the right search terms. Is it possible to cover The Bible and Its Influence in a semester? I don't want to devote much more time than that to the subject.
  5. Sorry, this will be for my 13yo, who will probably also listen in while I read the Golden Children's Bible to my littles.
  6. We are not Christian, but I feel it is important that my kids be familiar with the Bible. What materials are available for studying the Bible from a secular viewpoint? Nothing preachy, please. :)
  7. I'm thinking of going with Latin Alive, but I'm worried it will move too quickly. Thank you for the link to Anki. We definitely need more review, so maybe this will make it easier to get it done. :)
  8. Did this ever come to fruition?
  9. We're almost finished with Lively Latin. The problem is, my 7th grader isn't retaining much, and I don't know what program to use next year. The materials must be secular, and apparently we need something that will review pretty much everything we covered in Lively Latin. Sigh. Any suggestions? Is 8th grade too old for Latin For Children? First Form Latin? Something else?
  10. Perfect, thank you. I was just wondering how I would know what books to read before each lesson. If it's written somewhere, I'm good to go. :)
  11. Possibly a dumb question, but do you read first then listen to the lecture? Or listen and then read? Does she tell you which sections to read and when?
  12. I would love to hear about the specifics when you get it all worked out. Sounds super fun!
  13. Thank you. What level would I want to start at?
  14. I need to remediate writing with an 8th grader. I'm looking for something that gives explicit, incremental instruction.
  15. TGC....The Great Courses? Is this the one? http://www.thegreatcourses.com/courses/history/american-history/high-school-level-early-american-history-native-americans-through-the-forty-niners.html
  16. Oooh, thank you. I had forgotten about the concise version.
  17. What would be a good follow-up to this this series? Something that continues on with the explicit, step-by-step instruction?
  18. I'm wanting to do a 1-year overview of US History our 8th grade year before heading into high school. DD is a slow reader, so I don't want her to have to read a ton every day. Any suggestions? Secular please.
  19. We are using Holt Science and Technology Earth Science this year and will go on to Physical Science next year. It's a regular public school textbook, so it's not super exciting, but it does cover all the bases. There are vocabulary words and comprehension questions at the end of each section, and a larger review at the end of each chapter. It gets the job done, which is what I need right now. While I would love to do more hands-on inquiry-based science with my kids, my focus now is more on the basic skills.
  20. It's fantastic. I love it when people make things more usable. :)
  21. I have LAoW on my shelf but where can I find the workbook? Writing with a Thesis looks good also. Thank you!
  22. What a great resource! I'll have to print that one. (Not a coffee drinker, but I have a full Coke, so I'm all set!) We LOVE The Hobbit but I could see how some would think it drags on a bit. Honestly, if my younger children hadn't already fallen in love with hobbits through the LOTR movies, I'm not sure it would have held their attention.
  23. for an 8th grader who has had minimal writing instruction but needs to be able to write a coherent essay before entering high school?
