  1. I know this is from Memoria Press, which is a Christian company, but do you know if there is much content in FFL that would objectionable to a non-Christian? Is Latin's Not So Tough high school level? I was under the impression it was for younger kids.
  2. DD will be finishing GSWL in another couple of weeks. :) I'm trying to figure out what to do next.
  3. What is a Latin program that moves very incrementally, parts to whole, with lots and lots of repetition?
  4. Can you link me to these? I'm not really sure how Yahoo groups work.
  5. Is the TG necessary or just the workbook?
  6. That my 14yo (9th grader) and I can do together. We have both had very minimal exposure to Latin (completed GSWL), so it needs to start at the very beginning. I prefer a secular program that is complete. I don't want something that only has 1 year of instruction and then I will have to switch programs. She will be doing this for a high school credit but I would like to be able to learn alongside her. Any ideas?
  7. I'm looking for secular resources to constitute a 1/2 credit personal finance course. I have found some textbooks, but I'm not super-excited about using a textbook, as they don't really hold my dd's interest. Any suggestions?
  8. Does anyone know of any high-school level paleontology courses? Alternatively, has anyone put one together themselves?
  9. I keep reading that Minecraft is super educational and can help kids learn to code by creating mods. My kids just started playing a few months ago and would like to learn to mod, etc. Are there classes or something? I don't know anything about it and have no idea where to begin.
  10. Oh my goodness. Glad you got a diagnosis and can now work on making her feel better. Hang in there. (Still can't wait to read the book!!)
  11. Hoping your daughter gets better quickly! It's miserable to be sick for that long.
  12. A while back, she posted that she was writing a guide to designing your own curriculum. I'm hoping to use this while planning for high school. I don't check the forums every day, so I'm afraid I might miss her announcement when it is ready to go.
  13. Please be sure to post when you get it done....This sounds like something I need to read this summer while planning high school! But take your time and be with your daughter right now. She needs you, and the rest of us can wait.
  14. The facebook group is called Build Your Library Families. You will have to ask to join, but it really is a helpful group.
  15. My 13yo is not a natural speller, and I am looking for a program to work through over the next year or so. I don't want anything that will cost a fortune or take several years to complete, just something straightforward, to the point, and geared toward older kids. Does anything like that exist?
  16. We used grade 1 this year. While I don't necessarily do well with the "read pages xx to xx" format, the book choices are fabulous. We often read more than we were supposed to, but it was easy to adjust and get ourselves back on track.
  17. Never mind. I found a schedule.
  18. How much reading is required per day in order to get this done in a year?
  19. I was all set to use LLLotR, and then she posts this. It looks fantastic! It's posted in the BYL Amazon bookstore.
  20. I will be reading aloud to 6, 8, and 13 yo. The 6yo has a short attention span and comes and goes during read-aloud time so I'm not too worried about pleasing her, but is there something that would hold the attention of both the 8 and 13 yo?
  21. I spent quite a bit more time looking at the LLLotR samples today, and I'm more convinced that I want to do that program fully, so I think I have decided to put EIL off until 9th. Dd isn't a fast reader and hasn't done much lit analysis before, aside from us just talking about books. She has done no writing about literature yet. I think that delving deep into LotR, a story she is already familiar with (and our whole family LOVES) will be a good introduction to lit analysis and writing. The program isn't heavy on writing, so I think we will still be able to work through another writing program too. Also, since I have an issue with only planning on THREE books for lit over the entire year, I love your suggestion of reading Beowulf, Sir Gawain, etc. I was also thinking of adding an Arthurian legend as well....Can you recommend one? The three I see recommend the most are Pyle, Green , or White, but I am not familiar with any of them. Thank you, Lori D, for your input. I'm really getting excited about using LLLotR next year!
  22. LLLOTR seems light. Would it be too much to add EIL's Intro to Lit?
