  1. Thank you. Yes, the flashcards are printed in the book, but I was hoping for some I could download and print to avoid cutting the ones out of the book. So as long as they re-do the work and fix all mistakes, they get an A? I don't have much experience yet with giving grades, so I didn't realize that was an option. :) Would this be an acceptable way to grade Latin too? Because I will be making dd re-do all her Latin work until it's correct as well.
  2. If you have used Irasshai, how did you handle grading? There are no tests that I can find. Also, the book keeps mentioning additional resources that are on the website in the "for students" section, such as downloadable flashcards and writing practice sheets. I can't seem to locate these. Have they been taken down? Thanks in advance.
  3. I'm looking for reviews on any of the programs: Physical Science In Your Home, Biology In Your Home, Chemistry In Your Home.
  4. Thank you. Now I'm off to Google to figure out what Scratch is... :)
  5. My 9 yo wants to deisgn video games. I am clueless in this department. Are there programs that teach this sort of thing from an absolute basic, beginner level?
  6. Thank you. I found the US course I think you are referring to. Any suggestions for world history??
  7. 9th grader, and she "hates history." She learns best by videos (watches a lot of Khan Academy) rather than reading, so I thought the Great Courses might be a good fit.
  8. I was wondering about this too, but when I clicked on the "Look Inside" feature, the book seems to be writtin in English. I'm still a little confused, but maybe this is just an error made by Amazon?
  9. Which Great Courses lecture are you using for American History? I'm looking at the High-School Level Word History but haven't looked at American history yet. Yes, or her father will be. I suppose technically anything could be made discussion-based, but I'm looking for something that has questions and topics for discussion already laid out.
  10. Are the Great Courses lectures enough to count as a credit? I have heard wonderful things about Lukeion but the price makes it a non-option for us. I will take a look at Classical Historian. Thank you all!
  11. Thank you all! Elegantlion, that was exactly the info I was looking for. I'm glad so many have found success with this program.
  12. Can someone post a link to the text and workbook for the first year? Is there a TM and, if so, is it necessary? Is there an answer key at least? What other resources have you found to be helpful? I'm assuming a Japanese-English dictionary would be useful. Also, at what pace did you complete the lessons? On the website, Japanese I has 73 lessons and Japanese II has 63 lessons. Did you do 2 lessons a week? I haven't seen the books yet, so I don't know how much material is covered in each lesson. Most importantly, can my 9th grader and I learn this together, with neither of us having any previous Japanese experience? Thanks in advance.
  13. Yes and I can't wait! Definitely these are good resources. I'm thinking of unplugging for a week or so, and would like something to read during that time.
  14. what should it be? Looking for general help in creating courses, transcripts, grading, credits, college prep, etc. We are not religious, so I'm not looking for anything with a lot of Christian references or overtones. Thanks in advance.
  15. That looks great, but I'll have to see if I can catch it on sale before fall. It's pretty pricey. I had already planned on using Mythology's Hamilton, but I didn't realize there was a study guide, so thank you! That might be helpful.
  16. I'm having a hard time narrowing down my focus here. Dd wants to do a mythology class for 9th grade. I think I will use the Classical Mythology and More workbook but I'm not sure what else I need to add. I don't have the book in my hands yet, so I'm not sure how long it will take to cover the material. Should I cover the Iliad or Odyssey in this class? Also, should I include Norse mythology? Basically, I'd love to hear any ideas.
  17. Ok, gotcha. We'll be fine then, as we plan on doing some coding/programming and also a sewing class. I just wasn't clear on the terminology. :)
  18. Hmm....Maybe. That would make sense. The graduation requirements sure have changed since I graduated. More math, science, and language arts required, plus now the schools around here are requiring a personal finance class.
  19. I looked up the requires for local high schools and universities in my area just to get a general idea of what high school classes are required. They all required 1 fine arts and 1 practical arts credit. I know fine arts include art and music, but what are practical arts? Dd was thinking about doing a sewing class...Would this be a practical art? What are some other examples?
  20. Thank you Corraleno! I think I am going to go with Wheelock's. We will have to go very slowly, but the amount of resources available is amazing.
  21. We're going to use Irasshai for Japanese next year, and I would like to add in some books/videos/other resources about the Japanese culture. Does anyone have any favorites? Thanks.
  22. Thank you! Do you know if there are lesson plans available anywhere? I could look at the book and try to figure out how to spread it out over 3 years, but it would be so much easier if someone had already done it. (I love lesson planning, but I also work full time, so sometimes it's better for me if it's already done!)
