ipad vs. Kindle? Has this been discussed yet?
CalicoKat replied to CalicoKat's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Well, I think my dh is buying me an ipad for Christmas but I think I really just want the Kindle. I played with the ipad at Best Buy today and thought that it really wasn't the e-reader that I wanted. I mentioned that to him, but he had other opinions about it. :glare: Your opinions help me to verify that my thoughts were spot on, or not. I love to read. -

Does the ipad shut off like the ipod does after a brief period? -
Are you afraid of divorce?
CalicoKat replied to LibraryLover's topic in General Education Discussion Board
No. But I do know that I will never marry again. Marriage is huge. And I would never willingly do this again with anyone else. Being alone isn't my desire though either. Many of the things we've lived through together, any one of them alone, have ended other marriages. I'd like to think that those would make us stronger. But I'd be foolish to think we're immune. Marriage is work. The fun moments, the happy moments, the "WOW!" moments all make it worthwhile. Hopefully the sad, difficult and horrific moments will get fewer. Divorce wouldn't be the end of my life. I'd carry on and hopefully be a better person no mater what's next. -
Crafty people, how do you organize all the stuff?
CalicoKat replied to IsabelC's topic in General Education Discussion Board
plastic filing drawers from Walmart. :D I organize by the type of yarn (wool, acrylic, cotton). And then by weight (sock, heavy weight, worsted). My needles are in a portable zippererd needle case. -

He's not going to make it. His nurses told the family it's time to start saying their goodbyes. He's not expected to make it through the night. They weaned him off the respirator today but he's not able to breathe well on his own. There's no brain activity. So sudden. So sad. I wish I could be there and hold vigil with the rest of the family tonight. We're check out local hotel rates and clearing our schedule for the weekend. Thank you for your prayers for him.

Our basement is unfinished and we use that for the indoor playground during the winter. DH suggested that we need a "new" toy for the basement to keep their interest. We have a tire swing hung from the rafters in one corner (with mats underneath). Little tykes climing thingy for the little people. And they use their scooters and roller blades to go around the "track" around the stair case. Anyone have a cool idea? My suggestion was to hang some of the faux white board from Menards on one wall for with dry erase markers. I am also scouring craigslist for some outdoor toys that might spice things up a bit.

Buffet Style Hostess Question: Kitchen counter or separate table? We aren't doing turkey this year. The farmer we buy from didn't raise any this year and my mom who raises chickens let a few grow to 10 lbs. We're planning on roasting 3 of those. She's pushing for 4, but I think that's waaaay to much. :)

Absolutely no resolution. She doesn't want to talk about it either. If she didn't have the tape she'd be apt to say that it was all in her head. But there's the tape. With the very clear voices. Sometimes she will say that she wonders if it was just the dog stretching and yawning or clicking nails on the wood floor. But then there is that recording of a clear conversation. The police department didn't find anything and they didn't really have anything to go on other than that tape. There have been a number of burglaries in her neighborhood but no one has been caught yet. -She's got a new house alarm. -A panic button for her bedside. -A lock on the inside of her bedroom door to use when her dd is away at her ex's. -She changed the locks on all her doors. -Her dog is crated at night in her bedroom so the night time messes have stopped. Poor doggie who was supposed to be a guard doggie but really is chicken. Thanks for checking back.

He made it through the night but he's still not breathing on his own. He wasn't stable enough for them to do the heart cath. or any surgery. They're doing hypothermia treament for 24 hours and then see where they're at. Much brain damage according to the ER doc. Hopefully the hypothermia will prevent more and bring the brain swelling down. They advised my Aunt to think about his wishes for further care. Evidently he refused a stress test (until after deer hunting season) just last week. He'd been experiencing heart burn and shortness of breath.

Do you have a water softener? I hated the idea of this but after scrubbing mineral gunk out of my toilets and showers dh persuaded me that this would help. It does. Of course our drinking water is NOT softened. That runs through a reverse osmosis system and it's on a tap that doesn't go to the softener.
