  1. I experienced let down with a little leakage about a year after weaning my last. I was holding a newborn who looked remarkably similar to one of my babies. There was milk. I went home and hooked up to my old pump. Yep. A couple of ounces. I'll still feel let down on very occasional moments, but there is no milk involved now (16 years later).

  2. We have 5 in the family. Never a glass crack. We all do use cases. Two just Otterbox. Three have Lifeproof.Lifeproof has been very good about replacing them when they fail, which is very often. All have had their cases replaced multiple times. Ds has to have his replaced every few months. Personally, I think they are sending substandard cases at this point...But, the phones are all just fine (And I wouldn't ger a LIfeproof..).

  3. That sounds great in theory, but in reality this is very subjective.

The thing is while he didn't need any help bc he wasn't hurt - may be the person who called the authorities thought he left the house without his parents knowing and was just playing.  There were numerous cases where little kids walked out of the front door without their parents knowing.  Now, I am just making this up as I certainly don't know what was in the mind of the person, but is it not possible?

Are we always to assume that people calling authorities have evil inclinations and want to get parents in trouble?

So, my question remains - do we want the village in or out of our lives?  Do we want a stranger to call the cops when they see a child in the car by himself?  Or child playing on the playground?  Or walking by himself to school or home?

I'll bite. I want the village out. I do not want them to parent my child or make decisions for them. They are welcome to intervene when there is immediate danger, but otherwise...no. None of the situations you give constitute an immediate, serious danger.

OK, let's pretend that no kid ever lies ever...

Anyway, we call all sit here and say that "well, nothing bad happened" and the person shouldn't have gotten involved, but if that same kid was playing unbeknownst to his parents and then decided to go further and then got lost......Would any of you blame that stranger for not being more diligent and checking on the words of a 4 yr old?

No. I would not blame the stranger.

  4. Thank you all.

I think the chaste berry I took on Sunday hoping to ward off the inevitable worked a little too well. :(  Everything came to a total stop and has not restarted.

So, for mamas who have BTDT, can I just ask - how long?  How long could something like this possible take?  Because at 12 weeks, if baby passed at 8.5, it's been 3.5 weeks......  I could alternate black and blue cohosh.  I honestly cannot fathom mentally consenting to a D&C at this point.  But I am wondering, for health, is infection a risk if we pass 4 weeks?  5 weeks?  I am bleeding some, but absolutely no contractions or cramping like this weekend.

First, they will want to make certain you did not have your dates wrong. Probably with blood work and an additional ultrasound. With my first, my body would not let go of the pregnancy (and had increasing hormone levels though not in the amount large enough to be normal). I ended up with a d&c at 16 weeks. It was about 4 weeks after we figured out things weren't progressing normally.

  5. 120 feet. I am making the assumption that you would be able to keep an ear on them. I did not keep my 4 yos within my sight at all times.I could usually tell exactly what they were doing based on my ears. (Used to astonish dh just how good I was at it.) Honestly, it would make a difference to me if this was a little who had just turned 4 (more of a 3 yo) or was closer to 5. 4 yos vary greatly in what they can handle. The parent is the one most likely to know whether or not the dc could handle the situation or not. Yes, soemtimes parents make wrong choices, but in cases like this I believe they should be given the benefit of the doubt.

  6. Dh does. In fact, he is collecting bottles now for a new batch. He usually uses 2L plastic bottles. So, we have a lot of sodas to drink so he can make root beer!  Anyway, he also has some fancy, smancy glass bottles he purchased strictly for root beering purposes. For those, he has a thingy that puts metal caps on them. He has never used corks. (The glass ones were cool. He made fancy, smancy labels to go on them. They would make a super-cool gift done this way.) But, yes, you can reuse the bottles. As far as thickness of glass...that could be an issue. The bottles he purchased are rather thick glass. I have no idea on cork size!

  7. I have done all the above. The main tree has been an angel for many, many years. We also have a tree that has a ribbon bow as a topper. When the kids were little, the second tree had a stuffed animal on top.

  8. No. Who is going to define school hours? Can schooling not occur outside the home? In the car? In a doctor's waiting room? A teacher/parent/tutor is not required for work to be going on. I also do not believe that any requirements should be put on homeschooling families as far as number of hours to school or topics to be covered. Basically, I do not feel that there should be any oversight whatsoever.

    Adult female.

  9. Normally, I would say it would just need to proceed. But, if you have to go on progesterone for pregnancies as a routine measure, I would highly advise calling your ob; especially if you have had a heartbeat at your appointments. It may be that you need to be on it earlier this time. As for your other question, for ME each miscarriage was easier than the one before it. As far as products of conception go, it really just depends on how far the baby developed. I've miscarried later than 12, but the baby wasn't that far along.

  10. But one of the specific questions they ask is "Did you take any online courses?" And then they ask for a list of which classes and the school information. :/

This is where I'm struggling atm. DD only has one course I'm concerned with - and I have listed myself as her instructor for that course and I gave her additional assignments through out the year, so I feel secure with listing myself as the teacher.... But when they ask directly if she has EVER taken an online course... I have to say yes, yes? :/

No. And, No again. Maybe even a third time, NO!

Let go of your morals. You are not dealing with an agency that cares one whit about them; nor do they necessarily have them either. I would go so far as to suggest that you make sure to use names of programs that are most likely to be accepted whether you have used them or not. I am going with the spirit of the law, not the word. The spirit is to make sure the children are educated in a manner which will lead to success in college. So, I educated them for that goal. Then, I jumped through the hoops I had to. (I did make selections for courses with the goal of meeting NCAA standards.)

  11. I have two who have Wacom tablets. They both love them. I don't think the Bamboo has pressure sensitivity. You will probably need to go to the Pro models for that. (Just rechecked the site. Medium Intuos Pro is the one I would recommend.) The ones my girls have a older models. They hold up well! They have completely changed their names/designations now. But, the going by the ones on their website, they would be the equivalent of the Pro medium. The girls say that you do not want a Bamboo for drawing. The surface is too small and would drive them insane. The medium is a very nice size and lends itself well to most anything. (We were looking for a replacement pen for dd21b. After 4 or 5 years, it has broken. It still works, it just is missing something that makes it easier to switch between "stuff". ) https://www.wacom.com/en-us/store/cm-intuospro-november

Adding: Gimp no longer works with the Intuos. Dd23 had to switch to a different free program. Don't know what it is, but I can check if you need to know. DD21b uses Photoshop with hers.

  12. Okay, so why don't you ask your plumber or, next time you're on a municipal system, your waste management company directly? In fact, why don't we all do that? It would no doubt be interesting to hear what they say.

Actually, I have had this discussion with a couple of plumbers. Both have said you really shouldn't put anything but human waste down them, and even that can be too much at times... They do not even put tp down theirs; it goes in the garbage also. Yep. think on that.  Garbage disposal? No cereal, noodles, meats...Pretty much just small quantities of veggies. That. is. all. I don't necessarily follow their rules, especially the tp one.

  13. The new usual Thanksgiving. All sitting around working on assignments and studying for tests! I am so frustrated with dd21a's anatomy teacher. They have a week and a day (?) of school left. They still have THREE tests plus the final to go. He didn't line his teaching up very well. So, they have to just cram it all in by teaching it to themselves in a short time and take tests. That seems very, very unfair. Oh, and they took a test the last day of class before Thanksgiving too... Half the material for the class is being covered adn tested in the last two weeks.

  14. I can't answer for others (esp. since I am fluent in Japanese and learned it from the time I was a baby) but I can't imagine anyone learning Japanese without learning keigo since that is what you would use in any business transaction etc.

And there is the thing. People who speak it as a native, don't think about it. People who learn it as a second language/adults are not taught this form until they are way, way in. She is in the last Japanese classes offered in college, and it is a "business" Japanese class. Actually, it was completely skipped in her normal classes. She is taking a special class with this designation in order to learn it. She feels like she is learning yet another language (sort of) since there are different words for the words she has already learned. Not an efficient way to go about it maybe! She had her first trip over last year and was dismayed to find that most of the conversations she needed to be able to hold she could not because the people she was speaking to were waiters or sales clerks who would only speak keigo to her. She did find a few people who were willing to speak the Japanese that she has learned. She is going back this spring (for a concert!!! I am in shock at that one), hopefully she will have a better grasp of this language this time around. Also, she would love it if you noticed any mistakes that she made. She is definitely still a novice speaker/writer.

And, she has closed it out. Thank you to all who participated for her !!!

  15. It's not multiple languages but multiple types of writing.  This is normal for anything written in Japanese.  Kids learn the two syllablic writings (hiragana and katakana) in kindergarten and first grade and start adding in the kanji in first grade.  The kanji gets harder as you progress in school.  The problem is that foreign learners haven't gone through that progression.  So for foreign survey takers, writing it all in hiragana and katakana would be easier.  But Japanese survey takers would have found that weird and cumbersome.  Also our computers and keyboards are set up for writing English too.  So responses were easier in English for me.  (My Japanese friends have things set up for writing in Japanese).

It is a formal speech called Keigo used when you are speaking to a customer or someone who is socially above you. For example, instead of "desu" you say "degozaimasu".
