  1. I agree. We have about 5 titles from them and plan to invest in more. I now trust their selections and love the quality of the books, print, and original artwork.
  2. Yes they do! You can order just the Digital Edition, or a Digital/Print option for an extra charge.
  3. I'm planning on using the CLE reader and Lightunits. Should I also buy the teachers manual?
  4. Thanks everyone for responding! I will definitely take a look at the yahoo group. Wow-wee, MIch elle! Now that's what I'm talking about. ;)
  5. Yes, we've used R&S for years and added in IEW this year. They compliment each other nicely. IEW is really concentrated on writing fiction & non-fiction paragraphs and essays with style. We are now using one of the history-based lesson plans. Just off the top of my head, R&S covers a variety of writing including correspondence, public speaking, poetry, reports, answering the phone ;), etc.. R&S covers many topics that IEW does not. But, it doesn't teach much style. We have a separate time scheduled in our day for R&S (which is mostly grammar,) and IEW (which ties to our history.) I am absolutely loving how grammar, writing, and history are dove-tailing into each other this year!
  6. I'd love to hear some opinions on the Christian Light Reading program. http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1234857159-352240&subject=6&category=934 How much time per week does this program take? Will we really learning about Literature? (whatever that means :001_huh:, I was a science major and need some serious help with teaching LA.) Do I want the Teacher Guidebook? Is it necessary? Is it helpful? Also, am I crazy to consider a separate Lit. program? We are using TOG and doing a ton of reading for history. My kids are UG, LG, D. All the lit discussions really seem to start at the R level. (we have a lit worksheet weekly but I don't feel my kids are learning much about literature from these.)
  7. Pretty much everything I'm now doing. Except it would all be new~!:001_smile: also... All the TOG books! All the books recommended by Ambleside All the books from www.yesterdaysclassics.com hire a foreign language tutor hire an art teacher (and I'd join the class!) "buy" some more time in the day with a maid!!!
  8. We decided to go with TOG after SOTW. I love that we never need to switch history programs again. :001_smile:
  9. Janice in NJ gave some brillant advice for TOG users in this thread... http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80890&page=2
  10. I've been doing Apologia Elementary for a couple of years. I want so badly for this program to work for our family, but it just isn't happening. My oldest is now doing Apologia general science independently. My youngest is doing simple science at his level. Now I need something for my 5th grader. I can not do another page of Apologia! Don't get me wrong ~ love the Apologia. But... need... a... break! Is there any good science made for a 5th grader to do independently? I can certainly help with experiments. I just would love to not have to do/read the science myself. Am I dreaming?
  11. Idee, We're also planning a small event here. I'm not sure what we called it last year, but this year I'm so stealing the name Curriculum Review! How would you feel about sharing your flyer?
  12. "Key to" series http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist.php?sid=1233909119-1134490&subject=10&category=2225 These are great supplements to cement math ideas. They are written to the students, cover one concept at a time, and are fairly inexpensive. Some of their topics are fractions, percents, measurements, decimals, algebra.
  13. We do it in the car. Listen & take turns reciting. :001_smile:
  14. Make a daily schedule and stick to it! :001_smile:
  15. Rhondabee, That's such good news! We have really worked toward "getting" every concept this year. So, if next year is review/clarification, maybe we can handle it.... Agreed ~ it really takes those reviews to cement the concepts!
  16. I have a love/hate relationship. Love the content... hate reading them aloud! It took me a few years to figure this out. Now my 5th grader reads them herself and does note booking. This works for us. Older uses Apologia high school (self-taught,) and I have time to read simpler books with youngest. Of course I do help them all with hands-on activities.
  17. Is there a new revision of TWTM coming out this year? Fact or fiction?
  18. My first two kids have been all over the map in math. I was searching for that perfect program. Now I'm back to Singapore as my core math. In my opinion, as you progress with MUS it will become much harder for a non-mathy mom to teach. We have it so I do use it as a supplement. But Singapore teaches in a slower, more methodical manor. It covers a wider range of topics and it has reviews. Singapore does have hard word problems so make sure you have the Home Instructors Guide (or other guide to show *you* how to solve the problem!)
  19. This might not be helpful.... :001_rolleyes: We're using the Medieval Lessons in 30 minute increments. We spent 30 minutes and STOP, even in the middle of a list. At this pace we are on lesson 16 of 26. We are in week 21 of school. (also, my oldest dd just started using the word processor for her lessons and it has really increased her pace. She'll soon leave younger dd behind.) p.s. I should say this pace is dictated by 5th grader. My 7th grader could move much faster.
  20. Yes, this was my plan: finish 8th grade R&S then switch to ABeka. We're mid-way through 7th grade R&S, and it is hard stuff! I just don't know if we can handle another year. I ordered 8th grade ABeka to see how it compares. It looks easy-peasy. So... Continue with 8th R&S to be complete? -or- Switch to ABeka and concentrate on writing?
  21. Also, after R&S grammar, what do you use for grammar, (not writing)? Nothing? Switch to another program? I put an "other" choice, because it is always needed. If you use it... please tell. :-)
  22. Since early adulthood I've had dark circles & bags under my eyes due to a lifetime of allergies. :glare: Last year I started using a powder foundation & concealer and have found that it photographs wonderfully! (I use bare escentials, but there are many other brands out there.) hope that helps!
  23. :iagree:Be sure to check the sales whenever you make a purchase. They often have things greatly discounted. Just tonight I noticed that several of their "World" books are half price and a piece of furniture my daughter wants, regularly $36, is on sale for $10. Can't beat that at Target!
