  1. Thanks! I am going to give him the next test and see if he gets and 80%. .
  2. ... we're just not ready for the General Science book yet. :) Thanks for the suggestion, I looked at the first chapter on their site. It looks good. I think I've decided to get it and just go through it quicker. The author has a great way of explaining that even adults can appreciate!
  3. My son tested into Saxon 76. If I had given him partial credit on the placement test for answers that were "almost correct," he would have placed in 87. I decided to give him the best foundation and go with 76. (He completed Bob Jones Math 5 last year.) So... by lesson 10 should he have learned anything new? He is B-O-R-E-D right now in math. Yet, I know it's very early in the book. :001_smile:
  4. How do you organize your cards? Do you punch holes in the corner and put them on a metal ring? Do you use a 3-hole punch and put them in small binders? Do you just throw them into a box? :) Does anyone love their organization?
  5. Has anyone started the new "Exploring Creation with Chemistry and Pysics" by Jeannie Fulbright? :001_smile: Thoughts? Would you say it is on the older end of the spectrum for her Elementary science books? (Or, would a 7th grader find it to be too "babyish?")
  6. Yep, that could work, and it might be the right choice. But truely, my daughter would be miserable. My first choice would be Human Anatomy, but we're stuck because of the Biology requirement.
  7. For various reasons, this is what must happen: 9th - Apologia Physical Science with lab (completed this year) 10th - ???? 11th- Apologia Biology with lab 12th - Apologia Chemisty with lab Can anyone recommend a high school level science that doesn't have a Biology or Chemistry prerequisite? It does not need to have a lab. Thanks so much for any suggestions! :)
  8. Hi, Does anyone know the differenence between the `old & new edition? Would a student attending CC have problems using the 1st edition in class instead of the latest, 2nd edition? Thanks!!
  9. Has anyone gone from Bob Jones 5 to Saxon? What level did you find was the best fit? :) My ds is going into 7th.
  10. Thanks Amy, that is very helpful information!
  11. There are so many options available, it is obvious that we need to cut something. I do appreciate that they gave us plent of materials to use if needed! How do you use everything? :001_smile: Do you use both the Workbook page & Review page? It looks as if new material is covered in workbook and the review from previous topics is in the Reviews. How do you use Teacher's Edition? Do you read through the scripted questions with your student? Or, can we just work through workbook page together and get the same info? Do you use the CD? Thanks for any comments!
  12. Same here. As a matter of fact, that series is my new favorite! :001_smile:
  13. Okay... That's really funny! Thanks for the recommendations. Herbs de Provence is exactly what I'm looking for... there is just nothing else with that same taste. :001_smile: If anyone has other spice blends they love (espcially for chicken or veggies) I'd love to hear!
  14. I don't have a clue! :001_smile: I hate to buy from an unknown source, but want to order some better spices than I'm finding locally.
  15. When we reached TOG Rh level, we discovered Vertias Academy. ToG had laid a great foundation, but Veritas changed our homeschool! (I know that Veritas isn't everywhere or for every child. And financially it is not an option for everyone.) The other option I found was MFW for High School. It is sorta "TOG-light." A lot of the books & themes were the same, the biblical focus was there & the christian world-view. It seems much more doable. But as I said, we never used it because we have a Veritas here.
  16. I've asked this question over on the K-8 Board. http://welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=243605 Since they've been around so long, I thought maybe some of those with older kids may have used them. :001_smile: Thanks!
  17. Are there any curriculum, worksheets, or reading lists built around the Moody science videos? My 7th grader is finishing up a long text-book type unit and I want to give her something more engaging for the rest of the year. (I'd love to use the BJU DVD series, but that's just too much $ for the end of a year.) We already have the Moody videos and like them. :001_smile:
  18. Thanks gals for the suggestions. I looked at them all and it was helpful to compare. :001_smile: In the end I have ended up with Easy Grammar Plus and a litttle workbook that covers Diagraming (Better Sentence Structure Through Diagraming.) We pulled it out today and my dd began moaning about grammar. Once we started she was so happy about it being painless. Plus, the idea of looking for the prepositional phrase first was a new & interesting concept for us. So, that's our first day report. I have high hopes that we'll keep her R&S skills sharp and have a joyful year! :seeya:
  19. My 7th grader has done R&S grammar years 3 to 6. What if we just want to take a break? What grammar would you recommend we use for the interim? She does need review to keep her skills sharp. I'm not sure if we'll come back to R&S. I do want something similiar in content to leave the option to come back to it. We're just tired for now. :001_unsure: This year grammar has been on hold so far and now I'm having a hard time picking up the book.
  20. I just took a look at the Quarter Mile math and Mastering Essential Math Skills. They both sound great ~ yet, very different! Do your kids like the Mastering Essential Math Skills? Or, is it painful to them? ;-) Does it really take 20 minutes per day? I'm tempted by the QM math because all my kids could use it. Thanks for the suggestions, any others? :001_smile:
  21. My 7th grader needs help with math facts and reviewing basic math operations (such as long division & multiplication with several place values.) We aren't interested in switching programs. Over the years we've used several of the most-popular. She needs a lot of review (more than in many programs.) So, I am hoping to find something like workbooks or a computer program to use as a supplement to our current math program. We already have the flashmaster, but it is like pulling teeth to get her to use it. I'm hoping to find something that has some instruction. If only the Key To series made a multiplication and division level! :001_smile:
