I've tried to research MTHFR and am so confused. My son's MillenniumPGT report states a MTHFR genotype of C/T (C677T); A/C (A1298C) Greatly Reduced Activity. It says the patient is expected to have greatly decreased folic acid metabolism and low folate levels. The patient has the genotype associated with improved depression treatment outcomes with L-methylfolate treatment adjunctive to SSRI/SNRI antidepressants. I asked his psychiatrist and he said he's not really familiar with it, other then he sees that result a lot and I could give my son a daily vitamin with folic acid. DS has adhd, autism and mild intellectual disabilities. Is supplementation something I should pursue? What should I look for and be cautious of? Thanks in advance!

I've read some posts on Mighteor and it looks interesting. For those who have used it, should I do something like the Zones of Regulation curriculum first? Have you felt the program has helped past the initial few months?

I apologize if any of this doesn't fit or has already been said. I haven't been able to read all the previous posts. You could investigate the Cunningham Panel to test for Pandas. Also, I would recommend the book The Connected Child by Karyn Purvis. I will keep you in my prayers. I can relate a little bit to your situation. I have an older child adopted at 2.5 from the US foster system. We received his family's history after adoption. I don't know if it would've made a difference in our decision to adopt him, but I know it would've most likely prompted us for further testing and investigation. We now have a child who we don't know if he'll ever be able to live alone due to do a variety of reasons. I love him to pieces, but it is very challenging and the future scares me.

Has anyone done ABA with an older child?

Can anyone recommend a foreign language program that focuses on conversational skills, not grammar? My son is entering 9th grade and reads at approx. a 3rd grade level. He just started level 5 of Barton. He's interested in German, I think Spanish would be helpful or maybe sign language. I want him to be able to work somewhat independently and not have to read everything to him so an audio or computer program would be best. I work 1 on 1 with him for all subjects and need something he can do more alone to build up his ability to work alone (and give me a little break!). Thanks!

Thanks everyone! I think I will continue on to Level 5. It's so nice to see him moving forward. I plan on starting him on typing soon. There's so much to work on with him and only so much time..... I'm hoping he can work on typing independently as everything else we do is one on one side by side.

My son is 15, with an IQ 70, ADHD, sensory issues, dyspraxia and aspergers. I started home schooling last fall with Barton. The first 3 levels went quick. We worked through Barton Level 4 over 8 months reviewing each lesson app. 4 times. He's good on the reading, but his spelling isn't consistently at 95%. I'm considering moving forward since his reading is good, but I know the book says not to move forward until reading and spelling are at 95%. I also know the system is recommended for kids with IQ's above 70, so he's right at the cut off. I know spelling will always be a challenge for him and wonder if we are near a limit to what he can consistently do. I hate to stop though because his reading has really moved forward although slow. Thoughts??

Your plan to keep some sort of reviewing sounds good. Level 4 is a beast and sometimes you both need a break. Fingers crossed Level 5 is a little easier! My son is almost done with Level 4 and he's been working on it since November. His reading skills have improved SO much. We have done all lessons at least twice, some 3-4 times. He works one hour a day for 4 days a week and on Friday's we play the Spelling Success games. I highly recommend the games, they give him a break and seem to really help in learning the rules. Hang in there!

Has anyone done Noeo Physics 3? We tried Biology 2 this year. It was a little easy for my son and I was disappointed with the experiments. I didn't feel they added a lot to understanding. Physics 3 has more experiments, but I'm worried they won't enhance learning. Thanks!

I would recommend reaching out to Susan Barton for specific advice. We are also slogging through Level 4 and she's given me good advice via email and phone.

My son has battled through lesson 6 at Level 4. He's doing well reading but spelling is a struggle. We do each lesson 2-3 times plus the extra practice pages. How should I proceed- keep doing a lesson then repeat until he gets it no matter how many times? Would it be better to do several lessons and then repeat? This book has been a bear. We started in December and work 4 hours a week plus games on Fridays. Thanks!

My son is 14 and I'm planning for high school. It's our first year of home schooling and I started him in Noeo Biology 2. He has always loved science and it's a little too high level/easy for him. The kicker is he can't read a science textbook by himself and struggles greatly with handwriting so I need an interesting program that I can read to him, has pictures or videos he can watch and have him answer questions orally. I need something harder, but not TOO much more! He especially loves experiments so I have looked at Noeo Chemistry 3 which has a lot of experiments - we were disappointed because I thought the Bio 2 class would have more hands on work. Any advice on high school science for kids with learning differences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

I've been very happy with Math U See. My 14 year old has a similar IQ and has struggled for years in school. I started home schooling him a few months ago back in Alpha. Alpha and Beta didn't take too long, but he did fill in some important gaps. He's currently working through Gamma and is plugging along well. The blocks and repetition seem to be helping. I wonder though if he will hit a wall at some point and be unable to progress further.
