Yea I agree with deserflower. If they want to...ID pursue it. I like interest led. They work St it better :) I think that's sweet their enthusiasm excites you too. I say, if you all want to do it...do it. That's one of the beauties of homeschooling :) Maybe start them out with English from the roots uo? Or a flash card set that has the varying words thst come from that. Or, if you wanted to try your hand at Latin like a curriculum... I'd try prima latina. It's by memoria press. I used latina Christiana but hem for my big kids. We started in 3rd but I think that was they first year it came out. I probably would have started it earlier if it had been out or I had known about it. Have fun :) Sounds like you guys are already havin alot of fun :)

Yea...no no. I wasn't saying was 2 grade levels ahead. It is ahead tho. Depending on the addition. Anywhere from a half to three fourths of a grade ahead.

I suppose when you said ....Latin grammar...it sounded to me like you were talking about...Latin grammar. Maybe I wasn't following what you were sayin but...it's ok. We teach what we teach and we learn what we learn :) I like camy very much. We know how it is to be almost attacked for our choices St times in homeschooling or even the decision to homeschool :)

Sounds like a good and interesting thread to me :) I know and I so have never gotten it WHY Latin is so controversial. I say that, not in a way most might think, the well...Im just goin to say it outloud. It is not usually , in fact I have never first hand witnessed it and I've paid attention to take note, it has not ever been my observations thst the controversy comes from those seeking to do and teach Latin. It is from the people who come at those quietly teaching Latin, minding their own business, that the gen pop is like....offended. Um. ....*shakes head vigorously*...really???? Are you kidding me??? Why...pre tell,...do YOU ...care if I teach Latin to my kids? Why?? It is beyond me. And???? .....um....so far....with me personally or any if my friends that have been posed with this very rude thing from the gen pop? ...they cannot tell me what their problem is with MY teaching it to my kids. They cannot say one reason why they care? Ir why they feel the need to almost at times...attack the parent teaching Latin. And Hunter and others thst teach Latin know exactly what I'm going to say next...the ONLY.....I mean ....ONLY thing they can or have to say about it is?? Baha!...that it's a dead language. Um. Ok. I teach it cuz I want them to have a grasp on the English language as well as many other languages they may decide they want to learn. I teach it so as intelects that are usually older and well versed...as they speak..my KIDS can figure out just about any word the other person is saying. I teach it so when they get to college there won't be probably a singly 'bi word'

Here's what I've done. I still have mine from the big kids thst I've added to. I do like you said...an outline. I also do lime you said. I have a master list and a secondary list. I think since ELTL has come out...I can add those into the master list and outline. Since the ELTL books are all classics, not pictures and pretty artwork...I'm going to make sidenotes next tibky master list...audiobooks. I just can't read everything aloud. ( I get a siree throat and tired :)) Those we've been doing at nite a bedtime so we have that chapter ready to go for ELTL the next day. We write rigjt in out ELTL books to analyze the sentence. Underline nouns in red etc ( I color coded all the parts of speech and made posters of them and we US those color codes to analyze a sentence ) ....noun is red, adj is orang ( a variation of red) verb is a true green, adverb is a light green ( aruliation of the green ...and green means go...so that's the action haha. Articles are black, interjections are purple. Objects are true blue and I made prepositions an light blue because the object is often in a prep. Phrase. I had to color code everything. I do the same on their history timelines. Color code. Anyway, I'm going to list the ELTL books first cuz we do thst first thing n the morning ( after math) Then history I have SOTW, but then I have the mists I don't want to do without in that section of the outline and as see list...balnk fir readers. ...the d'claures books you mentioned, I forgot we gave those too and ..I can't give those up ;) those we read aloud together on the couch and see the pretty pics. Then the cool ones like George Washington, 4 th of July ( beautiful feel list) these have to be read aloud cuz..pics are cool! :) Then C. On the outline would be the independent reads...like the landmarks and historical fiction ( must reads) Then D. On the outline...would be the choices they have...landmarks that aren't a must, other books you like or want ir they might like. So you have the audio for ELTL . Read aloud for the pic books all together . Then must have independent reads , this is where they can make some choices. Then the ones that you would like read...like the mdledal winners...that if they dint get read all of them in clschool year ( independently) they can go in the summer reading list. I never make uo a summer reading list BECAUSE I know we wint get to all the books I want like the where the red fern grows tec. The medal winning books. Then I have science. And it's sane deal. Audio for as much as there is audio like galelio etc. History if inventers ( beautiful feet recommend) and that's a cool pic book we read aloud together on the couch n see pics. Experiments around that scientist or what I want them to do. Read aloud science books w pics together on couch like...living science books or a picture book of earth, bugs, whatever were doing Any experiments were going to do there. This is where I have my science all planned out for year and they can pick. Then a see sep reading list for any BIOS and such I want them to read independently . Then some choices of science books. Thst it's OK to go to summer reading if need be...like ones thst wint nesscarily go with out unit of like bugs solar system etc. Or-thst I know if we don't get to won't kill us..can go to summer list. I put this in my planner but this year I'm going to put in kids planners too. So they know and have them put a check by the books read or listened too. Yay! Lol Oh them I do a art section and composer section. But. You didn't ask that so...and that might be fir another day. I add the artist and composer and scientist to be done chronological with history and who knew who etc. Alot of the artist, composer and scientist knew each other :) Fun stuff mane!! Ha-ha

Hunter, very good point. You're right. I taught Latin to all my big kids from about 3 Rd or 4th on. Idk how you can try to effectively teach grammar without Latin. It's where all the languages stem from. Latin ir Greek. We did Greek too. Only a lil tho. Just now this year starting Latin roots with my lil guys. They have some significant learning challenges. So I haven't done Latin. As I said on another thread, I find the systematic approach (which winds up rigorous) I havent don with them. BC of the challenges. I think tho...as I've added in systematic curriculums... That's when there learned the most and soared. That's why it dawned on me.....Latin! So I'm going to start with the roots. Unless you have something better here thst they're able to do... I had a duh moment. If it's worked in math and reading and writing (systematiband rigorous, but gentle) then why of course not grammar too! They cant spell worth a tinkers darn haha :) Again ...Latin. I'm going to look at the links you have here and read. I'll be back then :)

I so agree 100% :) I remember when my big kids were young...didn't have the lil ones yet..I had a very sweet dear friend with 6 kids. Hers were older...the big kids anyway. My older kids that were young...were her lil kids ages. I'll never forget ...she used to fuss bout the big kids coming in at night , late of course , with a friend or 3 lol....be in the kitchen.. Microwaving stuff...talking laughing etc. And she would be like...wow! I lose so much sleep cuz of them. I chuckled at the time and it struck me...that seemed out of character a lil bit for her...she loved her big family . Oh boy...do I see what she's tslkin about. When all 5 were at home...they'd come in late, microwave food lol, talk, laugh Baha...and ID be like...to myself of course...IMG! I have to sleep cuz the lils will be up early and have to do school! Haha They didn't get it at all ( the big kids) when I would ask....for them to maybe take it down a notch ir 2. Smh. I knew you'd know what I meant. Only a mama with lots of kids , and...ppl say..woe. You have such a spread in ages..( fir me we did have a 7 and half year break) But I tell ppl...if you do the math...5 or 7 kids , having them every 2 ir 3 years...yea...that could easily be a 21 year spread. Hello! You don't have em all at once lol. Oh the joy. I wouldn't have it any other way. :) I always wanted 10. Dh agreed til w had our first and hED get up at 6:30 every morning and read tobher haha. ;) Hey, I told him, I nurse thru the nite. Tag! Youre it!! :) Now we've started the grandbaby cycle. She's 4 and my daughter and sil are a paramedic and cop. They work goofy hours and she has to sleep at the fire station. So I have the grandbaby over night 4 ish days a week. So...adding another one in half the time...yup. Fun! Lol Talk about a homeschool distraction :) Gosh...wouldn't have that any other way either. I have DS20 coming in at midnite with a friend, or...stuck in the mud in his truck til 4 am..mim awake worried. Then grandbaby wakes up at 7:30 ...wants milk and cuddles. Then lil boys up at 8:30 ..then school...while I keep grandbaby with blocks playdoh and videos. Schiolbthe boys til ds20 wakes up to interrupt and DD 24 calling about what ...can you believe this girl did THIS? ha-ha...then grandbabies mama callin to talk to and check on her baby...back to school with my LC lil boys...dinner..more interruptions...bed then DS 20 wants to 'chat' cuz I've nlbeen busy all day...then he goes out...comes in late with a friend for food...and ....it starts all over again haha !) I love my crazy fun happy kids and life! :)

I wish I could do that. My guys are very...LC. We're working on it. Trying to work on drawing out details ...sigh. I did thst with my big kids. They are nt. One is dyslexic. Different kids have different struggels and things that dint quite...glitch together. And sometimes the curriculum we use over laps with the narrations... Esp swb curriculum. I love the wwe and fll and SOTW. Some of it...were just not there yet. My 2 lil guys are on the spectrum. Makes narrations way more difficult. I agree...narrations and WWE very important . I've said thst a bunch too. WWE does build and goes incremental. It's an awesome program. Her narrations style made my big kids great writers and have done very well in college with it. At a very small snails pace with my lil guys.

Oh. Gotchya. Well that works too. On the bookshelf . it's in order. I'm going to tyrp one uo in word so my kids will have one in their planners. I put it in their end if year portfolios fir evaluations. We don't do the testing. Mine being LC...get the bubbles mixed up...CAnt read the directions yet etc. We have a friend that's the principle of the public highschool here...we've knownthem since before any if us had kids . They have 6 kids and homeschool too. We do the same homeschool co-op etc. He does their evals from portfolio and faxes it to the county or me. So glad I have him.
