  1. It is possible that no one from his team is from this country. My husband 100% telecommutes and would not clarify. It is possible that everyone domestic was laid off or it is possible that people with visas are being delayed in the lay off. And it is possible that it is racism. But not the racism where they said they hate Americans but rather where the people from one particular nationality when left to make the decisions as to who to lay off, they decided not to lay off the people from their own nationality. It was not a situation where layoffs were done because of race, but rather that lay offs were being done, and the people from his section who made the decisions as to who goes happened to be of one nationality and no one from that nationality was laid off, even though a significant portion were laid off.
  2. Also, for us, home etc and industrial arts were both mandatory and not different by gender.
  3. Yes, and plastics. I loved it. We made cutting boards, key chains, other things too, I just can't remember what else.
  4. Umm, it's racism. Everyone not of one particular race/nationality from his team laid off. I didn't even say it was racism. I pointed out what it was. And it's not reverse racism, it's just as racist as if all the Indians were laid off and all the white and biracial people were kept. It is what happened.
  5. I am so incredibly sorry!!! (((Hugs))))
  6. Lol...you will love this. I told him I would happily get a job and let him homeschool the kids, but I couldn't make nearly what he made. But, it would hold us over for a while. And at that he said..."I think I only need today to do my own thing" ha ha ha ha!!!!
  7. I never do business with anything Citi because I had problems with them over 20 years ago. They are terrible and are often cited as the worst.
  8. It sounds like kids at school said they were coming.
  9. Lol...he says he wants to get back to working on his own business projects, but I suspect it will end more of an adult gap year.
  10. Really, the question was staying or going. There are plenty of jobs here. So, he could just start applying here and he would have a job soon likely, if he wanted to. He says he wants some time off and do his own thing. I thought I heard a sucking noise coming from my bank account. But whatever. He earned our savings. If he feels he needs it to have time to regroup, I should respect that. He might wait until January to work on anything.
  11. I know it is not PC to say, since it is not ok to be white and all. But all the white (or even biracial) guys got laid off and they were in the minority there. My husband is one of the few in the area or the group to be adept in what he was working on. But I guess they are going to train someone else to do what he did. He says he does not care, but I do. Everyone left in his group is Indian now (not American Indian).
  12. Are we allowed to have a gap? How does this work? Do I need to find private insurance now?
  13. I thought I didn't have a "tribe" here but I got called by three friends this morning who didn't know about the lay off wanting to get together. I realize I do have a lot of friends here.
  14. You are not supposed to put them on a diet..as in, a low calorie diet. But as a parent, you should be controlling her diet. So don't feel guilty at all. Do what you need.
  15. There is a job in Littleton that I guess he can go to. They offered it to him previously and said they would happily take him if he ever wanted to come back. Do you have an opinion of Littleton?
  16. He can see many jobs in every part of the country. He is asking me if I want him to focus on a few places. I suggested all of Colorado and maybe even Idaho. I am also curious about PA and he wants to know if he should be looking at Seattle area. He is in a job that theoretically is a high needs and versatile area kind of thing.
  17. My husband tells me the job market for his field is pretty good right now. He also says a lot of places are offering relocation packages. He told me to tell him where to go. My honest gut feeling was to say I do not want to leave. But when I got over that, I remembered how much we had wanted to at least try a part of the country with snow, and not so much piercing heat. I called favorite uncle who lives way north and he says they already have had their first frost. I do not want that cold. The weather for the last month has been perfect here of course. I would just say let's go to Colorado, but I am super worried about high taxes and high college costs. How does one even decide if they want to stay or go? The kids really like their lives here. And I admit, I have grown to like a lot here. Often, all I can see is what I am losing. But, that is how I felt when we moved here, like I lost so much. But I have grown and adjusted and like it here now. Other than that we probably need to downsize our house. At least with a relocation package, the company will pay for the move.
  18. She needs a physical activity too. That is why I spend the money I perhaps should not spend on the physical stuff for the kids, I come from a long line of obese people. It is in our genetics. So, I try to get something they like, something good.
  19. He says he just found out. Technically, they are officially telling him in the morning. So, add this to the rest.
  20. It's everything. That a/c guy I posted about previously, he is STILL trying to get that money! And our a/c does not work, the ducts are damaged so the heat is not going to work either. We are likely to end up in court. And now the thing with the IRS. I assume everything will be worked out with the IRS. It seems to me they are doubling the stock option money. Part of me is sort of worried I messed the taxes up, but I do them the same every year and they did not bring up the other years. Still, even that cost is less than what it will cost to fix our a/c and heating system after what that a/c guy did. Ugh! STRESS!!!! I just want to be a good mom, but...even my newish Samsung washer has had to have people come out to fix on warranty. Now it is on that recall and the only email I get about it says they are working on a solution. And then that computer that is new (1 yr old) that I mentioned in the other post. But the a/c is the biggie. It has already cost me tons of time and stress and then in the end, I might be out 20K or so to fix this. IF that guy gets to keep the money I paid originally plus I have to pay to repair what he broke.
  21. Little House on the Prairie did not follow the books or even the culture of the books after the first season. I get that they were a successful Hollywood production, but it does kind of bother me that most people think that what they see in the show was in the books.
  22. All my pets moved to the farm when they got old. Even the one we found dead. Somehow, he went to the farm too. LOL
