  1. CLE Math CLE LA Apologia General Science MFW Exploration to 1850s History, Bible and Music Music lessons for Piano and Saxophone German (?) God and the History of Art I am not decided on writing yet. Pretty sure he'll use CW 2 from PHP, but I am also looking for something that teaches outlining simply, so that he can outline and write reports on what he's learning in history. Maybe I will put up another thread on this, b/c I'm feeling lost in my decision. Am I missing anything?
  2. Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, I know they focus on different skills. I'm just thinking that for us, writing five days/week would be too much at once. Ds12 will be finishing up IEW for the second year this year and he's bored with it, so it's time to move to something else.
  3. Well, I ended up getting her a pair from Crazy 8 and Old Navy this weekend. I was hoping to find some at Savers (a second hand store), but no luck. It's a start, at least...
  4. We are doing IEW this year and I am looking for something different for next year (7th grade). I've really been looking at WWS or Creative Writer for next year, but I can't decide what to do. Is this just a preferance thing, or should I start with a certain book? Thanks!
  5. Oh boy! My aspie ds just turned 10 yesterday and he writes like a Kindergartner. I'm serious, his 1st grade sister writes better than he does, and I'm only talking about penmenship. Honestly, we haven't done ANY writing curriculum yet. I'm planning on starting him next year (5th grade) with a some type of writing program. I just have NO idea what. I feel it's important for him to at least START something though. It's only started getting easier with him recently. For 1st/2nd grade, it was HORRIBLE. I couldn't even get him to write TWO words. I'm not exaggerating. Last year, he would do a couple of sentances for me (with copywork only). This year, it's better, but still not up to par with his peers. I'm not stressing over it too much anymore, honestly. He has a hard enough time getting through his math/language arts stuff everyday. The poor kid gets so overwhelmed/anxious/stressed about just those two subjects. I'm trying to just chill. It'll work out. I hope sharing our story has helped you at least a little. Blessings!
  6. I really like the look of this, but it says it's the first volume of a four volume set. All I see on PHP is this volume in the set. Have the others not been published yet? If that's the case, when are they expected. I'm looking at this for my 6th grade ds for next year. Currently, we're using IEW for the second year in a row, and honestly, he's bored with it. I can't really blame him as it seems like it keeps going over and over and over the same stuff. Thoughts??
  7. Yup, I'll have to take a trip to the nearest "city", which is 1.5 hours away. Maybe I'll go on Sat. when dh is at his pool tourney.
  8. My dd6.5 has a total of three pairs of jeans. Two of them have holes in the knees and the third pair is starting to. I was looking at Wal-Mart today at their girls' jeans and...blech. Her crack would be showing everytime she sat down/bent over in ANY of those styles. Plus, many of them were skinny jeans or leggings jeans, which she couldn't pull off. She still has some baby fat around her mid-section (that's the only place it is too). Where can I find jeans that are a modest cut? I looked at the jeans in the boys' section, but the rise seemed huge! Please help me out here. I can't spend forever shopping with this girl, because I usually have a toddler in tow. Thanks so much!
  9. while our house is on the market? We sold a house three years ago, and it was bad enough then with three kids. Now, we have four (plus a teenager, who is going to the army in 4.5 months), one of which is a toddler who gets into everything. The house isn't even listed yet and I look around at how quickly things become messy and I want to literally cry. How am I going to maintain?? The older kids are some help, but don't clean/pick up to the standards that I need for when the house is showing. Ack! Tips, hints, hugs? I am freaking out!
  10. Thanks all! We will keep plugging along. I do plan on having him go through at least part of the summer on his math, just to get him a little further along. He has about 10 weeks or so of school work left. We were using TT for math, but it really wasn't working for him, so we switched to CLE. When we left TT, he was at the beginning of TT7, when we did the placement test for CLE, he placed at the beginning of lightunit 500. Right now, he's on book 506. CLE is really good for him in that he really, really needs the review. He forgets so easily. Poor guy, I'm afraid he's inherited my bad math gene ;).
  11. Once again many, many good views and thoughts. Yesterday was a horrid day, I admit. Can you believe that I wasn't even thinking of what time of year it is (of course you can lol)? That was an excellent point made by a pp. We've been going since the second week in August and the work load has ramped up recently for everyone. It feels good to read so many reaffirming words. I need to keep things in perspective. We all do sometimes ;).
  12. complete their work? My oldest ds is in 6th grade and this second half of the year has really kicked up a notch when it comes to school work. That's fine, I was curious when other students started ramping up. Between chores, school, music, and more chores, it takes him until 3-4 p.m. until he gets freetime. Just a part of growing up I suppose.
  13. Thanks to both of you. Now, let me ask this question: Say ds wanted to do dual enrollment his Junior/Senior years of HS, would this be possible since he struggles with math? His writing/vocab/language arts are great, btw.
  14. Ok, I know that my oldest is far from being a senior in HS, but he really struggles with math, so I thought I'd put this out there. At the rate he's going (if nothing changes), he would be taking Algebra II for 12th grade. Is this really horrible? He has plans for college. Would this hinder those plans?
  15. for an outside teacher than they do/would for yourself? This is where I am at right now. It seems that all of my dc would work harder/better with an outside teacher (ps) than they do for me. I feel like all they do with me is argue, dwaddle, mess around with each-other, try to cop-out of the work, on and on. I am very sad. I would hate to put them into PS next year, but sometimes I wonder if I'm being selfish by keeping them home. I would miss them so much. Sometimes I feel like I could be a better mom to them if we were not together 24/7. Then, sometimes I think not. Sigh...is anyone with me?
  16. My oldest dd is outgrowing many of her board and card games. I'm at a loss as to what's fun for her age. Her brothers have some games, but many are too hard for her (or she's not interested in). So, what do your girls like to play?? Thanks!
  17. Thanks for the insight, Jen. I followed you!
  18. I can never get simply june to work. I tried a totally different website too and it kind of worked. Mostly it was a pain and I think I will need to start watching on pbs.org a couple of days after they air them.
  19. A friendly bump for other prespective. Someone else that I don't know is now following me. He appears to be from the middle east and has no tweets. Not that it matters, but I don't know anyone from anywhere NEAR the middle east lol.
  20. Something to chew. Their teeth grow, so they need things to chew to file the teeth. My kids just got two piggies. We love them!
  21. I signed up for a Twitter account a few days ago, and I am finding it annoying. I have people following me that I don't even know. Is this typical? How are these strangers finding me? I am thinking that I will stay with fb, but was curious to know why strangers want to follow me.
  22. I see where you're coming from, but in this particular ds' case, it was to research and learn more from other ppl. It is a lizard/reptile forum with many knowledgeable ppl. I do see what you mean, however.
