  1. Everyone I know who wears reading glasses swears that the ones at the Dollar Tree are as good as any others, and you can buy multiple pairs for the price of one at WalMart.  So maybe try those so at least you aren’t spending lots of money at least?

  2. Sounds like life near the Great Lakes!  I live near Buffalo, NY.  Less than a week ago we hit almost 90*, right now it is 39* with a high of 47* expected.  We only average 3 days more sun than Seattle, average half an inch more rain, and average 84.8 inches of snow compared to their 4.6!  And we’re the 3rd windiest city in the US, above Chicago!

I love where I live in many ways, but the weather unpredictability is not one of the things I love!

Yeah the flakes on CL drive me nuts.  But it still is worth it sometimes.

I always have the meeting spot be out front of our police station.  Always.  And I say that in emails that we are meeting in front of the police station.  I figure that would  ward off  a bad person.  Or it should.   Dh always does the meetings.  And he brings along someone else and a dog or 2.  Just like to feel as safe as possible.  Never had an icky meeting.  It has always been really nice people.

Our police station has a spot out front specifically for this purpose!

Jessica/StillJessica, will you please send an email to this alias: support@welltrainedmind.com and tell me the emails you use for each account?  (I don't want you to post them on the boards...).  I want to make sure I am merging exactly the right accounts.   Thank you.

I totally missed this!  Emailing now.

  5. I haven’t been walking, but I have been doing hours of gardening every day!  We got O’s fairy garden set up yesterday.  Another week or so of pulling weeds, planting new stuff, and mulching and I should be done and will get back to walking and trike rides.

Mine is scheduled for next Saturday. I am a little worried because I don’t have a picture ID for him. I have an insurance card that has his birthdate on it, and I have a printout of his vaccination record that also has his birthdate. I am debating if I should take a catalogue that has his picture from past concert performance. Totally not official, but I don’t know what else I can do to put a name next to a face. We ordered him a passport and there is no sign of it. I hope they won’t turn us around.
He is schedule for a week long camp in July, so we have time to vaccinate, but I want it done sooner rather than later.

All we needed was his insurance card.

DD#1 got hers a couple of hours ago. I don't know if every CVS is like this, but it was not a very efficiently run site - we got there about ten minutes before her appointment time but she wasn't called back until about 45 minutes after appt time, so we were in line for 55 minutes. They said it was appointments only, so I'm thinking it wasn't planned very well.

At any rate, she did get that first dose, so hooray! She's not reporting any new super powers yet (or other side effects - her arm doesn't even hurt at this point, 2 hrs post shot), but we're keeping an eye out. 😉

My DH and I as well as my 17yo and both of my grandparents all had ours at CVS (two separate locations and times) and they were incredibly efficient.  We waited today at Walgreens for my 15yo for about 20 minutes past appointment time even though there was nobody else there for vaccines.  It’s probably just dependent on location.  I’m sorry you had to wait so long!

They thought he was too old to be 13. He only looks 13 next to DH, I guess.

Haha!  I took my 15yo’s birth certificate just in case, but they didn’t need it.  On the way in I asked him to grab it from the backseat where I had set it and he’s like, “Mom, do you really think they’re going to look at me and think I’m under 12?”  He’s at least 6’2” and has sideburns that are obvious even when masked.

I’m so sorry.  My parents lost their Miniature Schnauzer in early April and like you they are now in love with a specific breed and only want that breed in the future.  They couldn’t take the loneliness and already got a new puppy!  It’s hard knowing that there are so many shelter dogs out there, but sometimes a certain breed’s characteristics are right for a family.  Like Pawz4me, I think as long as you buy from a good breeder and make that lifelong commitment you do what is best for your family.  And sometimes a puppy makes sense because you can train them from the very beginning to tolerate whatever specific chaos you need them to be tolerant of.

If my kids went to public school I would probably wait until school was out before getting them the vaccine just in case they had side effects.  I wouldn’t want them to miss days when I could just wait 2 weeks and do it all over the summer.

I suppose that makes sense, but school isn’t out in NY until June 23, so it’s much more than 2 weeks to wait!

Appointments for this afternoon.  I could not get two same time appointments, so we'll be hanging out at Walgreens for an hour plus.

Hopefully they will let them both go at the first appointment time.  When my Dh and I got ours we had appointment times that were an hour apart and they let us go together.  That was CVS, but I can’t imagine they’ll make you wait at Walgreens as long as they don’t have seriously long lines.

I managed to find a Walgreens appointment for DS15 only 20 minutes from home, so he got his first shot an hour ago!  Glad to not have to drive an hour like we planned.  It was weird, though.  This was the bougie area and there wasn’t a single other person there for a vaccine!

  12. My 15yo has an appointment tomorrow at CVS.  We have to drive an hour to get it, just as we did for those of us 16+, but it is so worth it!  He’ll be able to attend the end of year homeschool dance and finally spend time with his friends for the first time in a year.  Happy tears!

  13. I didn’t get any walks in yesterday; I spent the day waiting for the plumber.  Today, more of the same.  Yesterday it was only 40* and rainy out, though, so I didn’t mind too much.  Today is sunny and there’s going to be a high of 60*, so I’m really hoping he comes early!

  14. This kind of situation has always been one of my biggest fears with parenting.  Not just that they would do it, but that I wouldn’t react wisely.  I smoked cigarettes, smoked pot, and drank as a teen.  I was also a straight A honor student, good kid whose parents never realized or talked to me about that kind of stuff.  My younger brother was the same, but he didn’t outgrow his teenage rebellion and after being prescribed narcotics after a car accident he ended up addicted.  I had no idea, and 5 years ago tomorrow he died of a fentanyl-laced heroin overdose.  That was a heartbreak I would never wish upon anyone, but it did result in my then 12, 10, and 4 year olds vowing to never do drugs, and they are still adamantly against drug use after seeing the heartbreak it caused our family.  You’re already doing better than my parents in that you’ve discovered it and are addressing it.  Big, giant, massive hugs as you navigate this!
